What's New in Version 3.12.0
Breaking News has shut down operations as of December 31, 2016.
Thank you so much for using this service — knowing that we had passionate, engaged people relying on Breaking News made our hard work especially meaningful. Many of the features we implemented came directly from your feedback. Thank you.
In our six-year run we had the honor of being at the forefront of news, technology and public safety, always focused on verifiable news delivered as fast as humanly possible. Working together, we were building the news service that we, ourselves, always wanted — and so shutting it down means that we're looking to where we're going to get our news, too.
There will never be a perfect news product, but we hope the future will be full of attempts to make one. We'd love to see more startups, more experimentation, more investment, more long-shots into funding models, more doubling-down into technologies that will benefit journalists, users and the world.
We've lit up your screen, buzzed your pocket and reached out across the room with our three-note alert sound. We've told you about things you cared about (and some you didn't), and helped you feel more in touch with the world. We helped you find out first, giving you an edge and even helping keep you safe. We loved doing it. We're going to miss it. Thank you for being on the other end of that glowing screen.
It's been four days and I'm lost without it
There's no app that compares to The Breaking News App. Period. Not even NBC's poor app could compare. I've been without alerts and updates and I feel out of the loop. Pure information, no clickbait or BS or opinions or slants. This was the app that gave it to us, and there isn't another that can replace it.
A team of 20 people did the work that gave us the real news and I forever appreciate them. I find it interesting that they were fired and the app was ended and then a few days later we learn that Megyn Kelly is the network's new hire. This is gross and a shame.
We would gladly pay a subscription fee for the app, but getting the real information out there isn't the objective, is it?
Farewell to the Best News App
Breaking News was by far the best news app. It had an unbiased newsfeed and the push notifications from around the world were at least 20 minutes quicker than any other news app and accurate. There was also a very innovative local news section that allowed users to send tips of breaking news when it happened in their neighborhoods to notify the editors of the app so they would become aware of the news. Another great feature was the ability to mute or receive alerts from certain topics. It's disappointing to see that NBC has shut it down because the app wasn't earning enough revenue. I hope they reconsider their decision in the future.
Bring it back, bring it back, don't take it away from me
So others rarely write a review, I for that matter, never did. But my time has come. I was never an NBC guy, but this app had me stared watching the network. Like others I would not mind paying for a service that the delivers news, mostly as they are, way ahead of others and commercial free. The dedicated group of ppl running the show are a model for how to run a successful news delivery service. Putting a financial engine around the service is perhaps what was needed, but that question never reached us, the dedicated users of the app so we can yay or nay the offer.
Let's give this one more try NBC. You may surprise yourselves
