The first graphic adventure by Tim Schafer in sixteen years, Broken Age began two years ago in a historic, record-breaking Kickstarter campaign. Now it's here in all its beautiful, 2D, hand-painted glory, with an original orchestral soundtrack and an all-star vocal cast.

Broken Age is a timeless coming-of-age story of barfing trees and talking spoons. Vella Tartine and Shay Volta are two teenagers in strangely similar situations, but radically different worlds. The player can freely switch between their stories, helping them take control of their own lives, and dealing with the unexpected adventures that follow.

They said adventure games were dead, but then Broken Age punched its hand out of the grave and grabbed you by the wrist and you screamed just like in the end of Carrie except what you screamed was "I love adventure games so much!" And sorry I spoiled the end of Carrie.

Act 1 is available for purchase now, and Act 2 will be available as a free update on April 28th. Note: this app supports devices from the iPad 2 forward.

Customer Reviews

I've been waiting and waiting...

And it was totally worth it. Between the graphics, the game play, the story and the amazing cast of actors doing the voices this game has it all. I could go on and on but the bottom line is if you like point and click games with an intriguing story that leaves you wanting more, this is it!

Side note - It is frustrating to see people complaining about the price. These games don't make themselves and the studios that make them don't exist to break even. Quality work will always cost more than something one person threw together in a few hours. I don't know why these days everyone expects something for nothing.

Beautiful story, music, art, except...

Everything everyone else is saying about this game is true: it's gorgeous visually, musically, and as a story. (Thank you SO much for using real musicians, it adds a level of class that most games don't understand. You can tell the difference.) I loved the art style with one exception: the characters were all very colorful and expressive....except Vela. Her huge shiny eyes were freakishly dissimilar from the art style of all the other characters and her visual emotional palette was disappointingly small compared to Shay. The voice acting was superb and elevated almost all of what lacked in visual expression...almost. I wish such a great character would have appeared a little bit more real and less like a Bratz doll.

Mind-stimulating cliffhanger

After thoroughly enjoying the art and story of Broken Age myself, I talked my 16 year old daughter into trying it. I got to watch her reactions as the story unfolded and it was a priceless moment to see her as she reached the cliffhanger and grasp it's implications. We are both patiently awaiting Act 2. Actually it is driving her crazy not knowing what is next, but I am pretending that I can wait.

Oh, and we both played this on the Ouya. As soon as I saw it become available on the iPad I had to buy it again. Yes, I like it that much.
