Convenient but...

Tqfs

This is one of the most convenient calendar apps I have used. Having a calendar that is quickly popped up and put away is very helpful and this app works flawlessly. It even offeres a pop up to let you know when an event is coming up. The paid version states that it offers many more features that sound like they would make this already great app much more useful but before I got to the point of enjoying the app to the point of purchasing the full version I ran into something that bugged me enough to not want to spend the money, uninstall this app, and search for an alternative, comparable, product.

The problem is that after installing it I keep getting pop ups telling me to install “Just Cloud”. I was unaware that these pop ups came with the free version and am uninstalling it due to the fact that they pop up whether I am doing work, watching a movie or anything else. I cannot find a way to permanently opt out of the offer and it quickly becomes frustrating. I understand that companies need to make money and that is why a paid version is offered but I alse believe that continuously annoying your customers, without an opt out option, until they install a program they dont need is a bad business model.

On the surface, it's a very useful app, especially if you have limited desktop space because you have a bunch of apps opened. I like a quick look at my calendar just to see what's coming up. But it's a bit of a mess. First, in the detailed view (which appears in a window to the right of the monthly calendar), it can only list a certain number of events per day. Someone as busy as me has 20-30 events in a day, and it just doesn't show it. Second, it's not very attractive. I use European time (or what we call Military time, a 24 hour clock), and it's just a mess. It actually goes over onto two lines for the time. Yuck.

But the most critical issue is a massive memory leak. For those of you who do not know what a memory leak is, it is, essentially, a program that keeps grabbing more and more memory without releasing it. Safari is notorious for this. If you have limited memory (I don't, I have 8GB), you'll start noticing a slowdown in your Mac, as the memory gets strained. I had to shut down Calendar when it hit 1.5GB (yes, 1.5 GB) of memory.

I have had to delete the app. Maybe it'll be better in a few months.

Definitely worth the download

This product was very well thought out. I can see they listen to what people want for the most part. It was very easy to get started and seemed pretty intuitive. I will use the free version as long as I can. The reasons I'm not buying the upgrade are the same reasons I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
1) The upgrade gives you google, facebook and birthday stuff. Well, I don't use google or facebook and I really don't care whos birthday it is. I don't give a darn about the social networking.
2) It's missing one thing that I have yet to find and that is , "meeting notes." I would buy the upgrade in an instant if there was a way to simply click on the mtg and take notes or minutes directly to the meeting.
3) the whole reason I wanted a 3rd party calendar is to avoid ical all together. It's cumbersome and not very intuitive. Well, I think it's intuitive but I have no idea how to use it correctly. But this is a problem with this download. If I want to make changes I have to click the actual meeting and it directs me to ical… WHAT!!?? That doesn't make any sense. I could just use ical instead of this app then. what they should do is give you an opportunity to make notes and it will figure out how to do it later. i don't want to go back and forth between this calendar and ical.

With all that said, it's a great app and I love the fact I can quickly get it from the top bar. Quick to react as well.
