Do you not know the weather conditions? First time in that area and no idea about the best surf spots? Or you just do not want to waste your time trying to figure out the best spot near of you? So, California Surf Way is exactly what you need.
This app is going to inform you the best spot for your daily surf according your location, swell direction, and wind condition. Let the boring work for California Surf Way and get the guarantee that you are going to surf the best waves, saving time and money.
Here is the thing: California Surf Way has a huge database of the California’s coast. Taking your location by the GPS, it shows you where to find the best waves crossing several data. The California Surf Way evaluation is based on the information received from the buoys, but also considers the wind’s speed and the wave’s size. That means that you will never be in a place where the swell and the wind direction are perfect, but the wind’s speed is too high or the waves are too small.
You have in your palm the information about more than 200 spots through the state. That includes beaches rating from one to five stars and the distance of each one from your origin, plus the spot’s GPS coordinator. This format gives you the chance of choosing according the condition you are looking for and the distance you are willing to travel.
California Surf Way is the best surf app in the market, very easy to operate, and it is available for Iphone and Ipad. No more drives by tons of beaches; no more dudes talking about the classic you lost that morning just one mile from you. Just the best surf you can find in California every day.
How does it work?
In order to display the best surf spot according to the current condition, California Surf Way uses data from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a federal agency focused on the condition of the oceans and the atmosphere. Our data base includes more than 200 spots through the California coast with the best swell and wind directions for each one.
The app considers the current conditions from the nearest NOAA buoy, and evaluates if both the wind and the swell match with the best directions for that spot. In an ideal condition 5 stars are displayed for the spot. As much as the conditions are getting far from the ideal, the ratting starts going down.
However, surfers know that just the directions are not enough, the swell size and the speed of the wind also matter. That is why Surf Way app only rates 5 stars if the swell size is higher than 5 feet and the wind is not higher than 15 MPH.
Besides the natural conditions information, California Surf Way has a listing with almost every surf spot in California with the GPS coordinates. That is the easiest way to find a specific spot using a GPS device.
What's New in Version 1.2
The new version of the California Surf Way is ready and it shows you the current conditions (swell size, swell direction, wind speed, wind direction) for each spot. It also displays a description explaining the meaning of each star rating. Those features provide you an experience even better.
Now you can check the current conditions for each spot clicking on it on the map. You can also understand why the spot receives certain star rating, based on data crossing that includes:
• Ideal Swell and No Wind
• Ideal Swell and Wind Direction
• Ideal Swell
• No Wind
• Ideal Wind Direction
• Good Swell
• Good wind
• Windy and Small Waves
• High Winds
• Wrong Swell and Wind
• Wrong Swell
• Wrong Wind
That will give you the opportunity to choose according to your preferences and/or expectations.
Note: This app does not have any information about potential hazards during the surf practice at the current condition. It is not its proposal to provide local descriptions or any kind of extra service. Please, surf safely!
Not much help for figuring out where to hit the water because the conditions are not updated. Example: as I write this I am sitting at Dillion Beach. App says it is a 4.6 foot swell with winds a 22 mph. In reality it's about a 2 foot swell with no wind at all. Not even close folks.
It ok I guess
It gives basic info about the wind and swell direction and size, it is a little glitchy and doesn't give the tide...
Worst app ever. It never delivers surf info from my location, however, I do get info from locations 300 miles away. Don't waste your money. I want a refund!
