Good at calorie counting not so good at measuring calorie expenditure

This is an excellent app. particularly considering it's free. It's great at helping keep track of how many calories you're consuming. But it's not so good at measuring how many calories you've expended in exercise. On Sunday for example, I ran almost 9 miles. I should note that I am not using Fitbit or any other such device. I run with my iPhone strapped to my arm so that phone is the only source of data. According to FitnessPal I expended 345 calories in running 9 miles. However, by the calculator built in to FitnessPal, I should have used about 1,000 calories in running for that period of time. This is only one of several recent examples where FitnessPal failed to register what I believe is the accurate number of calories. It didn't used to be this way but over the past few months I've noticed this problem. Perhaps it's better with Fitbit or another such device – but it no longer seems to work that well with the built-in iPhone exercise app. I should mention that another app, Stepz, had me expending approximately 840 calories during that run – still a little bit light I believe but closer to the mark than FitnessPal.

Just what I needed

This is an excellent free app for counting calories and simply becoming more aware of your total intake. I had been guesstimating and attempting to eat mostly healthy - with a little exercise thrown in randomly - but wasn't getting anywhere as far as losing my 20 extra pounds. Now I have a plan to take in only so much to lose 1 pound a week and it is working! I've used this app for 3 weeks and I am down 3 lbs - still with minimal exercise which I plan to increase. No special diet. Just portion control and being fully aware of how to adjust your daily intake. I can still eat my favorite things - just knowing how much or what else I may have to cut out that day.
Finding the foods I eat has been easy and if they don't have a special recipe in there I just list the ingredient portions and come up with it that way. This app really is an accountability buddy for me. It has not crashed on me and is simple to use. And, I've seen it rated online in fitness app ratings as one of the best of the free apps. Way to go Under Armor! Thank you!

Great App!

I highly recommend using this app to achieve a healthier lifestyle. I was diagnosed with diabetes this year. My A1C was 12.3 I took my doctors advice and started walking 10 minutes EVERYDAY...10 minutes turned in to 20 minute and 45 minutes. 1 mile turned into 2 and 3 miles. I also added step aerobics and weight lifting. My blood glucose numbers dropped immediately!

Up until this point getting my diabetes under control was my main objective. Since I was on a roll I figured I might as well attempt to start losing weight by calorie counting and watching and planning for my meals everyday. I started using MyFitnessPal and started seeing results in a couple of days.

I can't emphasize enough how much I LOVE using the scanner to log in my foods. I wouldn't recommend doing the upgrade, because it really isn't much difference compared to the free version. But it is a great way to donate money to an already great app.
