What's New in Version 5.12.2
Bug fixes and improvements.
This app is the worst I have used of all fitness apps. To log your exercises, you practically have to create all of them yourself. The are almost no stored exercises inputed by the app creators. For example a burp -- everyone in fitness kows what a burpee is! Only, if you search for a burp in the app there are no matches. This is true with SO many basic fitness exercises. In another example, lets say you have done 50 squats -- the only option in recording this exercise is squats per hour. No one does squats straight for one hour -- which by the way the app says is just 133 calories burned -- completely impossible that if someone did squats for one hour straight he/she would only burn 133 calories! In a more likely scenario someone may do a number value of squats like 50 for example yet with this app you'd have to just guess on calories burned or look it up on the web which adds a whole other step to recording your exercise. The user will run into all of these same issues with food and calorie content. Oftentimes I would have to look something up online and then put it into the app. I would pretty much have to create my food record and calorie intake and then put it into the app. Complete hassle!
This is a handy, convenient app with an attractive, easy-to-use interface.
Unfortunately, it falls short in reliability. If you are able to find your foods in the existing database then it should work OK for you. However, adding new foods has only been successful for me about 25% of the time. I either get a failure notice when trying to save, or it saves the overall calorie count but none of the nutritional information. I have encountered this issue both when using the app on my cellular network, and at home with a full Wi-Fi signal.
I have also encountered unreliability in counting calories burned; it will show, for example, the calories burned during a workout, but then a few hours later a significant number of them mysteriously disappear. I suppose this is not a big deal after all because it only counts calories burned from steps walked and my workout burns significantly more than that. Not to mention the myth status of "calorie deficit weight loss." Not all calories are created equal, so creating a deficit doesn't necessarily mean you're losing weight if most of your calories are from carbs and fats. Conversely, having a surplus doesn't mean you aren't losing weight if you are active and many of your calories are from lean protein.
Despite these issues, I have decided to keep using the app for a while to see if it improves with future updates. This app has played an important role in revealing my habits and fostering nutritional discipline.
Simple and Easy to Use with an exception!
MyPlate is the easiest food and fitness app I've used yet. It takes a little more time for some of my customizations because I cook my own meals, and I have my own fitness program, but that's expected. Otherwise, click, select, and I'm tracking away!
I don't know what has happened, but I ate out and the restaurant I was at was not on the list so I added all the details myself. Only to find that it divided every nutritional item by 1000 except the calories! It took about a half hour to break down the nutritional info from the restaurant website to the precise food I consumed and get it entered into the app only to have 64 grams (entered into the proper field labeled as grams) of protein become 0.006 grams!
I'm not a Gold member so it's likely LiveStrong isn't going to fix it since I'm not a paying customer, but be forewarned that some of the nutritional info might be very, very incorrect when selecting a user submitted food.
