Everyone has a personalized number of calories they should eat every day based on factors including their weight, height, activity levels, and weight loss/maintenance/gain goals.

It’s hard to track calorie intake, though, not least because it’s easy to forget everything you eat during a busy day.

Recording your calories as you eat gives you a clearer picture of the calories you are consuming. It also enhances your awareness of food values and nutrient levels, all of which helps you make healthier choices when eating.

Based on your weight, height and activity level, Calory will calculate a suggested daily calorie goal for you. The daily goal will also factor in if you want to maintain, lose or gain weight.

After you know your daily energy requirements, your challenge is to eat the right number of calories!

Calory, meanwhile, will remind you throughout the day to record your calorie intake.

Needs much improvement

There are many calorie counting apps on the market and compared to others, this one falls very short. I'd read good things about Calory and really wanted this one to work, as I really like the interface and the relative ease of using it.

The lack of a scanning mechanism or an accurate database are two of the non-starters for me. Many food items are not available on the database or are inaccurate. And there doesn't seem to be a way to edit once you log them. Or maybe I just didn’t see that feature. It would be extremely helpful to have the ability to alter the amounts used of an item once it's been logged. And have the app automatically adjust calories. Other apps are able to do this.

I’m hoping that these and other features can be added but until then I’m going to use other apps to track my calories. And I wish I could get my $3 back. Many other apps do a better job and for less money.

Fast, Streamlined & Perfectly Functional

This app was designed to be different than the countless other calorie apps on the market. It’s design philosophy is centered as fast calorie adds against your total, and essentially, that’s it. But it works for those who simply want to tally their caloric intake on the daily. While you can add nutritional values against common “plates” consumed, this doesn’t necessarily seem to be its strongest feature. Apparently there is a premium database offering in the pipeline for scanning and entering nutritional values that way.

Also want to note that the Apple Watch companion app is absolutely stellar. Great complication options, and it syncs common plates right to your wrist for fast entry; or, conversely, you can manually add calories and dial up/down with the Digital Crown. Perfectly designed micro-app.

Good start

Update: every time I open the app now to log calories there is a slide up animation that is broken and takes like 10 seconds to finish the animation before I can log anything. iPhone XR.

I enjoy that this app is simple. I would suggest the developers keep it simple otherwise it becomes just like every other calorie counting app. Most users will never track their macros, etc. If the developers plan to introduce advanced features, please allow them to be disabled for users that want a simple experience.

That said, an important component of keeping it simple for the user is the ability to type or scan a barcode. In the event of no barcode, a searchable list should exist with the ability to set common items as favorite (or automatically place recently used items at the top of the list).
