Everything you need to know about every camera worth using.

"How much drive space will I need for this FS7 shoot?”
“How long will these batteries last me on a C300 Mk II?”
"What's the dynamic range of the Alexa?”
"How big is this H.264 file going to be when I export it?”

If you've ever asked these questions, this is the app for you. Whether you’re making decisions on set, troubleshooting in an edit bay, or figuring out which camera to buy, we’ve got you covered.

• Search over 100 cameras with a list that includes Arri, Canon, Red, Sony, Blackmagic, Panasonic and more. Or browse by format, from modern standards like ProRes and DNxHR to older ones like DVCPro-HD and Betacam.

• Specs include dynamic range, sensor size, native ISO, lens mounts, resolutions, frame rates and more. You’ll see how well each camera and format performs with the latest versions of Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, and DaVinci Resolve. Plus there's a link to the manufacturer's website for firmware & manuals, and a phone number for support in your country.

• Use the storage calculator to determine how much footage you can fit on your camera card or hard drive-- or how much storage space you'll need for a given recording time. The transfer time estimate shows how long it should take to copy that footage. And the power calculator can tell you how long your batteries will last, with the option to factor in accessories like your monitor or wireless transmitter.

"With the abundance of camera formats now out there, it’s easy to get lost with which system can do what. With the Cameras + Formats app this information is now at your fingertips."

"This is one of my favorites. It has every single piece of information for nearly every single camera on the market today. Comparing recording formats between cameras has never been easier."
-Shane Hurlbut, ASC

What's New

Version 3.2.1

Introducing version 3.2 with new features and new cameras!
Each camera now includes Highlights, which lets you see critical information at a glance. Sensor size, dynamic range, maximum resolution and year released are all easily accessible.

There’s also three new specs for every camera— shutter type, internal ND filters, and price. Price fetches the current cost of the camera from B&H, and includes an affiliate link to the B&H website.

The new Power Calculator is the simplest way to determine how many batteries you’ll need for a shoot, or how long your set of batteries will last you. After selecting your camera, you can enter a custom amount of watts for any additional accessories, like monitors, transmitters, etc.

Finally, Notes is a convenient place to store observations, opinions, or anything you want to write down about a camera. Maybe you want to remember your favorite picture profile, or what ISO you prefer to rate it at, or whether or not it has clean HDMI output— just tap the Notes icon at the bottom of any camera or format page to get started.

And of course, there’s new cameras and updates:
-Added Blackmagic Pocket Camera 4K
-Added Blackmagic Ursa Broadcast
-Added Blackmagic Raw
-Added Sony FS5 II
-Added Sony a7 III
-Added Sony PDW-700
-Added Sony F35
-Updated Red Gemini, Helium and Monstro to reflect new DSMC2 naming
-Updated Canon C200 to reflect firmware
-Updated Arri Amira to reflect SUP 5.3
-Updated Sony Venice to reflect firmware 2.0
-Updated DJI Inspire 2 to reflect firmware 1.1
-Improved accuracy of ProRes calculations on Arri cameras
-Fixed LinearPCM calculations giving too high a result

Version 3.2.1 fixes minor UI bugs, Blackmagic Raw calculations, and ProRes resolutions on the Red Scarlet-W.
