Customer Reviews

Connection

I have been reading the reviews for this app for a while now, and I realize that I'm not the only one with this problem, which is frustrating because if I was the only one, then I would have been able to fix the problem myself. Instead I found that most people are having the same problem with connecting the app on our phones (an IPhone 5s for me) to the camera. I've tried switching to different wifi sources over the past couple of months, I've tried resetting my phone, erasing then re-downloading the app, erasing it for well over 6 months then coming back to it, hoping the new updates would have the problem fixed and it's unbelievable how long it's been without any help at all. There has been no new updates to accommodate and guide us through this, nothing that has even for a second fixed the problem and it's frustrating. There should be more work and more information to help with this. We need feedback and we need progress.

App is crippled and inconsistent

Canon's Camera Connect has some very useful functionality, but is often more frustrating due to limitations and inconsistent features built into the app. First, I love the ability to shoot a remote EOS camera that's connected via the app on my iPhone. However, shooting remote cameras is limited to JPG files with the mid-grade "Fine" comppression. Even if the camera is set to shoot RAW (CR2) only, there will only be a JPG file on the memory card when remote shooting is used. Second, on my G7X I can connect to the same WIFI network the camera creates each time it is initiated. So once I activate WIFI on the G7X, my phone auto connects without any input my part. Great! However, on my 80D, each time WIFI is started, it produces a different network name and passcode, so I have to enter the network details each-and-every-time I want to connect. Not great!

Works Great!

I recently purchased a Canon PowerShot G5X and I downloaded this app to my mini iPad. By following the instructions on the camera's online user manual, I have been transferring pictures from my camera to the iPad without any problems. I like the capability to select only those I pictures I want to download. I have been able to view the pictures in "Photos" as well as been able to post on FaceBook or email them. I have had the app for approximately two weeks and it has worked smoothly and without any problems. I should mention I have not used the Geotag feature.
