I am very excited that our app was featured on the iOS App Store and happy to be part of the political experience for more and more Americans. I do want to point out however that this app uses community driven content - and up until this point - most of that community has been progressive / left leaning. Many of the scripts and issues featured in our Action Center are written for this audience. As a platform, we are open to all viewpoints and welcome more conservative voices - but it will be up to these voices to register as contributors and engage with our users.
Based on recent reviews, some users have been surprised by this and I wanted to be add this cautionary note as a way to avoid this reaction and let it be clear we want a diverse user base – but our app is young and supported by a very small team – and this takes time to grow. So rather than giving a 1-star rating, please share this with groups you feel passionate about and ask them to get involved – or become a contributor yourself – you can register through the app.
And our core representative search feature works just as well whether you are Blue, Red, or Purple – so find your reps and call them – that was our main goal after all.
Just some minor house cleaning in this release:
* Fixed the support email link - so you can email us again!
* Added improved support for custom campaign actions - allowing organizers more creativity beyond our out of the box set.
* Added support for following internet calendars - allowing organizers to create dynamic calendars for upcoming activism events that users can subscribe to.
And if you're a political advocacy group or just a band of like-minded neighbors, register on our website and start contributing issues important to you and your cause.
You can also register via the "Become a Contributor" link on the app's More tab.
Has potential despite the original intent
The app does the easy part of identifying your federal (not state) elected officials based on your current location or address that you type; 1 star for that. What it doesn't do is allow you to select legislative action centers (or capwiz or take action) for advocacy
groups of your choice. For example, one might want to see legislative action centers for the ACLU, NRA, or countless other advocacy groups. Instead, the app touts 'campaigns' created by 'sponsors' (individual left wingers or a token right winger.) Let's hope the developer takes the next step of tying the app into already existing professional advocacy groups of the users choice and makes it a five star app. The app should also allow you to set your personal political or issue preferences so one can focus on seeing what matters to you rather than what politically matters to the developer. From a press release he put out, it's clear he's politically biased but the app still has potential despite it's original intent to push left wing causes.
Thank you for offering an awesome app that allows people to find their representatives information easily and readily contact them. I would like to suggest to look into utilizing the Sunlight Foundations’ data to possibly incorporate their voting history and campaign finances into a similar app? I always wanted an app like this to be available to people and now I guess I found it. Thanks again!
PS. I wish I could also suggest links/information that is missing from certain officials pages like their social media accounts and websites.
PPS - I’m a pretty conservative person and can realize that a community driven app like this is simply going to reflect the interests of those who choose to contribute. The most helpful part of this app is simply the geolocation god representatives and contact info presented in a simple way.
Ignore the 1-star reviews
Great app that allows easy access to your representative’s contact information and nice scripts to follow if you want something to follow while contacting them. I had to put my address in manually, as the automatic lookup using my phone’s location didn’t work, but after that hiccup it was smooth sailing.
The 1-star reviews are extremely misguided and as of this review are outdated as the tea party patriots have a call to action on the app now. I’m extremely liberal, so while I hope that the viewpoints expressed within the app continue to expand I also hope the level of education shown by some of these conservative reviewers aren’t indicative of my future experience using this app.
