Has potential despite the original intent
The app does the easy part of identifying your federal (not state) elected officials based on your current location or address that you type; 1 star for that. What it doesn't do is allow you to select legislative action centers (or capwiz or take action) for advocacy
groups of your choice. For example, one might want to see legislative action centers for the ACLU, NRA, or countless other advocacy groups. Instead, the app touts 'campaigns' created by 'sponsors' (individual left wingers or a token right winger.) Let's hope the developer takes the next step of tying the app into already existing professional advocacy groups of the users choice and makes it a five star app. The app should also allow you to set your personal political or issue preferences so one can focus on seeing what matters to you rather than what politically matters to the developer. From a press release he put out, it's clear he's politically biased but the app still has potential despite it's original intent to push left wing causes.
Developer Response ,
@markbyrn Thanks for your feedback. We'd love to partner with larger professional advocacy groups - though to be honest we just haven't had the clout for those types of relationships. Our hope is that visibility created from the Apple feature will help us establish relationships with not only a broader set of contributors but also larger more established groups. My personal political leanings aside - I'd prefer to have a community of many viewpoints rather than be single sided - as ultimately I believe this provides greater value for everyone. Though as I've mentioned in other responses, this will take some time to build as we're a very small team building this on the weekends and funding any expenses ourselves.
Thank you for offering an awesome app that allows people to find their representatives information easily and readily contact them. I would like to suggest to look into utilizing the Sunlight Foundations’ data to possibly incorporate their voting history and campaign finances into a similar app? I always wanted an app like this to be available to people and now I guess I found it. Thanks again!
PS. I wish I could also suggest links/information that is missing from certain officials pages like their social media accounts and websites.
PPS - I’m a pretty conservative person and can realize that a community driven app like this is simply going to reflect the interests of those who choose to contribute. The most helpful part of this app is simply the geolocation god representatives and contact info presented in a simple way.

@justinapeterswv Thanks for all the great suggestions. Beyond working to build more diversity in our community - we're also collecting all the feature requests for our next round of development. I've looked at the Sunlight Foundation data in the past and agree - that would be great to incorporate as well. And please recommend Capitol Call to additional Advocacy organizations you think could make use of it to spread their message - a more diverse set of viewpoints will only add value to the platform.
Not ready for prime time
I downloaded this app today and at first was impressed with the way it was setup. I quickly lost interest when simple functionality such as looking at representative information caused the app to grind to a screeching halt when you scroll down close to related news. It continued to spin while looking for news and wouldn’t let you go back or cancel it in any way other than to quit the app. I tried many different representatives and had the same result. This wasn’t a matter of waiting long enough for it to finish looking for the info. After 10 minutes(!), it was still searching when I gave up and closed the app. It simply shouldn’t take that long plus you should be permitted to cancel the search or at least go back a level.
Once the developer fixes this, I’ll reevaluate the app. Until they get a handle on it, I hope they’ll consider disabling this feature.
Developer Response ,
A quick update: we've just released a fix that puts the request for related rep news to the background. So, while we can't necessarily control performance from our news provider, we can at least make it so it doesn't lock up the UI on you. Thanks for bringing this to our attention so we can ensure the best app experience for all our users.
@bexn01 - sorry that was your experience - I certainly can appreciate how that was frustrating but thanks for bringing this to our attention so we can do something to address it.
The lawmaker "related news" is a relatively new feature and while we've tested it to work under normal operations - it is certainly possible that due to the massive surge in new downloads yesterday as a result of the feature on the AppStore, that this area was experience scaling issues. We use a 3rd party service for providing that news feed - and while we've never heard of performance issues with our connection to them - we also could have hit some sort of limit we weren't aware of.
Rest assured - we will look in to this. Also, I suspect that if you pull open the app today or tomorrow, you shouldn't notice this issue as our usage is no longer at its peak.
