Description

Chosen as one of Tap! magazine's Top 100 Apps of All Time, and Guitar World Magazine's list of 50 Best Guitar Apps.

Capo helps you learn to play the music in your iPod library.

By slowing down the music without affecting its pitch, you can learn to play it slowly, and then speed it up as you improve. You can drop markers at key points in the song, and set loop points to repeat them.

In addition to letting you choose songs from your iPod library(*), Capo will let you quickly add the currently-playing song from your iPod, placing the cursor right where you left off listening.

In addition, you can employ mono re-mixing to isolate the left or right channel in your audio, use the 10-band equalizer to help isolate specific frequencies, or use the vocal reduction feature to remove the lead singer's vocal from the mix!

For more information, and to watch some videos of Capo in action, check out the Capo website at http://capoapp.com.

(*) Capo supports WAV, AIFF, MP3, and Unprotected AAC formats. iTunes Plus purchases are supported, but older iTunes purchases are not. Most music can be upgraded to iTunes Plus—please see the iTunes store for more details.

Incomprehensible

I bought this for the tab feature having been led to believe that it could easily tab any particular song. However, after buying I discovered that the only way to get tabs is to learn how to use a feature they call the "Spectogram". The Spectogram is incomprehensible and the accompanying tutorial only makes it more so. The Spectogram is some sort of proprietary representation of the music being played that appears as fuzzy grey blobs on multiple horizontal lines that have no relation to notation or anything else that I'm aware of. All you have to do is find the gray smudge that represents the notes being played then with some sort of magic click/keyboard combination a tab appears below on music lines that may be the correct tab or not. Such gibberish is worthless to someone trying to learn a piece of music. I've gone back to using The Amazing Slow Downer which is much more intuitive and helpful. Meanwhile, i've wasted $35.

Okay, but UI is not well optimized to the task

In my mind Capo would be a lot better if the controls were significantly larger. When I’m trying to examine a certain passage, the little buttons are annoying to try to hit correctly. Disappointingly, the same problem exists on iPad. Too much screen real estate is wasted by the waveform. Every marker has the same name (“M”), so it can be disorienting to skip between them. Lastly, I found the marking UI to be really difficult to figure out – starting with getting it to appear (tap on the waveform). A simple “here’s how to use markers” display would have gone a long way.

Fantastic! But…

I've notices a few problems… First, often application would crash upon background operation ( ie. switching to another app, locking, or returning to home menu from app ). That doesn't often happen though. Secondly, when I turn the pitch down, I often hear little little semi-static sounds, and it's very irritating, especially if I'm wearing headphones. Please do your best to fix that. I appreciate it!
