Description

Why pay more for less?
There are many Business Card Reader (BCR) apps in the App Store—some perform well, some do okay, and some are just a waste of time. In developing Card2Contact, we had one goal in mind—provide more value than any other BCR app, period. Card2Contact is packed with premium features—available to you at a great price. And in addition to having a comprehensive set of features, Card2Contact is powered by a world leading OCR engine, yielding high accuracy text recognition with market leading speed. Take a picture of a card or select cards from your camera roll, and Card2Contact will automatically assign the text to the applicable contact fields. Card2Contact also features an innovative “drag-and-drop” user interface that makes changing text assignments easy and fast.

Note: If using an iPhone 2G or 3G, you will need to use an accessory such as the Griffin Clarifi to take adequate quality pictures. Alternatively, you can import pictures taken with a digital camera.

Features include:

*eFile Storage of your Business Cards
Never worry about misplacing a business card again. Now you can digitally store every business card you receive in your iPhone. After you add a contact using Card2Contact, the digital image is stored in an easy to browse “cover flow” view for later reference. Sort your cards by First Name, Last Name, or Company to quickly locate a card.

*Drag-and-Drop User Interface
Modifying text assignments has never been easier. With Card2Contact’s unique drag-and-drop interface, moving text is as easy as touching the text with your finger and dragging it where you want it.

*Batch Processing
Now you can process large quantities of cards simultaneously. Simply save individual cards from your camera roll. Then when you’re ready, you can process all your saved cards at once. Don’t have a iPhone 3GS? No problem. Transfer high quality business card images to your iPod Touch, iPhone 2G or 3G, and then let Card2Contact do the rest.

*Attach Voice and Text Memos to your Business Cards
Never again worry about forgetting key information about the people you meet. Simply take a picture of the person’s business card, and simultaneously add a quick voice or text memo to the card with important points you want to remember about the person. This information is saved for later reference.

*Grab Any Text
This feature allows you to OCR any text from any number of sources for later use. This could include billboards, signs, newspapers, magazines, books, etc. After converting the image to text, you can either copy to your clipboard, or email the text directly from the app.

*Add Picture of Contact
Quickly add a picture of the person associated with the card. This picture will automatically be displayed in your iPhone contacts.

*Send vCards
This feature allows you to select any contact in your iPhone’s contacts, including those you’ve added using Card2Contact, and send them as vCards to your friends or coworkers. A vCard is a special file that contains a person’s contact information. When a recipient receives a vCard, they can open it and add the contact to their address book using programs such as Microsoft Outlook.
Note: Sending vCards from your iPhone using Yahoo Mail is not supported. This is related to Yahoo Mail and is out of our control. Most other popular mail services are supported including Gmail.

IMPORTANT: OCR technology is not perfect, and results are highly dependent on the quality of the image. Under normal conditions, Card2Contact yields very good text recognition, but some manual corrections may be necessary. We currently support English text only.

Customer Reviews

Nice app for the money. Accurate for me.

I have used this with both the iPhone 3GS and iTouch and both have worked great. The accuracy of the OCR usually gets me 95% of the way there leaving me with some minor edits. Would not expect any better from any OCR tool. Like another reviewer said, good lighting does make a big difference. What I like most about this app is the extra features you get for the price. I especially like the ability to digitally save my cards and view the actual card in a cover flow view. The only downside I see to this app compared to some of the others is that it does not have some of the bells and whistles to ensure you take a good picture with the right orientation. I'm guessing this may be why some have not had good results. But what it lacks in a few of these features it makes up in price, which is why I'm giving it 5 stars.

Love the drag and drop interface!

What I like most about this app is that it offers more than just business card scanning. I like how the app saves all my cards in a sortable "album art" view. And as my title indicated, I like how easy it is to move the captured text around by dragging and dropping. One subtle feature that is not obvious is that you can double tap a text box, and the text instantly moves to the unassigned text area. This makes it really easy to change text assignments when needed. Although in my usage, the app usually gets most assignments right. As others have said, a great picture makes all the difference (especially the lighting). I also saw an improvement in accuracy when I upgraded my 3GS to the iPhone 4. Overall, this is a great app, and it helps that it's a few bucks less than other comparable apps.

Crap

Waste of money.
The recognition works but:
In one-by-one mode you have to use landscape for taking pictures. In batch mode portrait. Therefore no way to have this iTunes functionality as half of your cards is one way, half die other.
Even bigger flaw from my point of view is that you HAVE to import the card to your address book after processing it. I do not want the cards in my address book, I want the pictures stored and processed and on demand import in address book.
Interesting bug is also that after processing (and combine this with the orientation problem where half of your card is flipped the wrong way and OCR does recognize something as 'o-.:/-') you cannot remove the processed images. You cannot delete them before importing them to the address book. The only way to get rid of them is to import the unrecognized entry in address book and then delete it there.
Summary: search something else or throw your money out of he window, at least it will save you time and frustration.
