ABOUT CARDIIO
Cardiio’s technology is based on technology licensed from MIT and originally developed at the MIT Media Lab. MIT has not endorsed Cardiio-Heart Rate Monitor or Cardiio, Inc.

Blood absorbs light. Every time your heart beats, the blood flow to your face and finger increases, causing more light to be absorbed. In between beats, less light is absorbed. By using your smartphone camera to capture tiny changes in reflected light from either your finger or face, Cardiio can calculate your heart rate.

**IMPORTANT TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS
• ALWAYS hold your phone steady, keep still, and don’t talk during a measurement.

FINGER mode:
• Make sure your fingers are not cold.
• Cover the entire back camera lightly with your finger; Don't press too hard to avoid restricting blood flow to your finger.

FACE mode:
• Look straight ahead and hold your phone around 6 inches in front of your face
• Be in a well-lit area so your face is well illuminated, but don’t have a bright background behind you (backlit) as it makes your face appear dark in contrast.
• Make sure your face is clearly visible (e.g. no long hair covering your forehead etc.) so that it can be easily detected.

Accurate! SVT and tachycardia patients can benefit greatly

Let me first throw out that I agree with other users... No, I don't want to share my heart rate every time I get a measurement. I wish they would make it possible for the app would stop asking! A good on/off button would be nice for this.

Now on to the good points. I have chronic tachycardia and history of SVT and this app allows me to keep an accurate log of my heart rate without having to carry a pulse oximeter around with me. I can often feel my heart beating in my fingertips and as it beats, the app ticks away on the screen. I also like the fact that the developers allow you to choose which features you want to "go pro" with. You don't have to have all the bells and whistles if you just need a good heart rate tracker. But it is nice to get rid of the pesky ads! Good for athletes, cardio patients and for good old fashioned conversation! Family and friends are amazed that you can do this on a phone.

Inimitable I Tell Ya, Sure Is.

Let me begin by saying that this app is efficient, nonpareil, first rate, and completely accurate in every measurement.
This trusty little app lets me check my heart rate in whichever way is convenient to me; by the use of my front camera or by placing my finger on the back camera lens.
Its accuracy is astounding(I am blown away every time I use it). There is also the fact that it graphs all of your numbers to create a type of cardiovascular profile for you; compare and contrast just your numbers or with others to better understand how your health is, or see how you stack up with others worldwide.
If you upgrade to the Pro version, there are tons more superb features, but trust me, you don't even need to upgrade, the free version is in itself absolute high quality.
A little bit about me, having recently been diagnosed with an illness that requires I take a number of stimulants every day, this app has, not exaggerating, saved my life. Having this app/ tool to check my heart at any time I need, in any one place, has allowed me to prevent the need to visit the emergency room various times.
So whether you are looking to better understand your cardiovascular health, or are simply just curious to know what your heart rate(bpm), the CARDIO app is the one for you. Scouts Honor.

Innovative, easy to use

I tried using Cardiio on my iPod touch a few years ago, and thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen an iOS device do. Then I got an iPhone, and the camera was so much better and so much more accurate that I was again blown away by how easy to use and accurate this app was at measuring your heart rate.

I recently had a medical accident and am in the process of healing, and it is very helpful to be able to record my heart rate throughout the week and report to my doctor. Cardiio and apps like it give me hope that the future will be one of patients being able to record a multitude of biometrics at home instead of having to wait until a doctors visit.
