Close to Perfect
Why? Because for what it aims to be it accomplishes. It’s a fairly balanced and smooth load times (quick at finding matches) yet most matches can be immersive the better you get. The developers take risks going towards this goal. As a longtime player I saw the major updates which drastically changed the game. And honestly the change cost them players but I respected the fearlessness. The change grew on me and I appreciated the focus on its strengths. I think they could update more often and that’s why I held back a star. What they do well they should expound on. The experience during the game can be made better without a major update or a new faction. They could add more character taunts, randomize the character taunts to automatically do it sometimes so it encourages users to toy with it (i find it can help with ones strategy by making you seem more aggressive), the sounds or effects can be added. I’m not asking to slow down the game with to much. But the “sorry” button should be added back for moments when you forget to click the end turn button. These things encourage more communication between players and just add to the experience. But all in all great game. I’m not that good but I enjoy tweaking and watching my deck build.
Ton of fun, very well executed
So I'm going to get this out of the way right off; my five star review is based off the quality of the game only. It is true that the developers seem too focused on the money and at some point you will feel shafted because of that. Their prices are too high for most in app purchases because they're trying to get real world trading card game level money from a free to play app, which is a tad unrealistic. They also give you abysmally low returns when you trade in a card for in game points.
That said, they absolutely earn their money. The game is VERY good. As far as trading card games and tactics games go it's as good as you could ask for. The gameplay is fluid and works well, simple enough to pick up and play effectively, deep enough to create some mind boggling decks and combos for the more seasoned deck builder/strategist. With a friendly and colorful art style that I also felt deserved mention. This is by far my favorite iPhone game and the only one I really play at this point (the rest couldn't keep my interest) so I would stand behind this game and it's developers (who by all indications are great guys by the way, if that matters to you) 100% here, I think everyone should give it a shot and will love it. The game is a lot of fun and I doubt you'll find anything better on the app market.
Thanks again to the Cards and Castles team.

It's a great game! PLEASE don't think I'm complaining with the rest of the review! Everything about it is good, except for the deck min cards. Having to have at least 40 cards in your deck to even play with it... It makes games boring. I could imagine SOOOO many new strategies developing if the limit was 20, 10, or even better, nonexistent! For instance, your entire deck could be korou/assassin, 4x vanish, 4x flash grenade, 4x tag team, ect. Or how about stalker/4x last stand! Imagine how much more interesting matches would be!!!! 4x Merc's fav + keeper/door + eternal life? ONLY school/pyromancy?! The possibilities are endless! Speaking of school/pyromancy, I just wasted 1500 shards creating it. It's a very good card, but only comes up on about your 25th(or more) turn, at which point it's useless. Please, REMOVE THE CARD LIMIT!!!! I'm sure anyone reading this who has played the game will agree!! Another pet peeve I have is the take-backs. It should be TWO actions instead of 1, because often people consider, then move, and then attack without further thought. Mabye a better idea would be making a move followed by an attack count as one action. Anyway, great game! With these fixes would be perfect!!
