Ratings and Reviews
I started Journaling on Caringbridge 8 years ago when my son was diagnosed with leukemia. I had been following a friends cancer journey four years prior to that.
When I first started journaling the site was awesome. You could control the size of your letters-which was great as I had some older People with vision problems following the site. Then, after about 4 years, the site updated and lost those features and became harder to navigate. It did add a feature where you could see the last 9 people who logged in to the site. Then they "updated" again to what we have now. My son passed away last year and my husband and I were going to make a sizable donation, esp since my son's site became my niece's site- she had emergency open heart surgery the day after my son died.
But we are reluctant to as the site keeps becoming worse, not better.
If they would improve the site back to what it used to be and fix the glitches and crashes everyone is talking about, this could be a 5 star site again!
Where is donated money going to if not to fix bugs?
Couple pet peeves, having been a customer for a while. First, the constant prompt for donations to the website. I guess I can understand an initial prompt when you get your account. But disguising the donation to the website company as a tribute to a patient seems a bit of a stretch. It doesn't go to the patient. It doesn't go to their cause. It goes to the website company to maintain the site, which btw needs plenty of work.
Second, I'm the patient in our site and folks make comments after my journal entries. I'd love the functionality to respond to their individual comments, but it doesn't exist. I can only add general comments to the rest of the comments. So if Suzie from the coffee shop says, "Miss your shining face!" I can't respond "Miss your dog stories!" back. All I can do is add a comment to the bigger list.
Next, surely there's a communication prompt that can easily bring in email addresses to notify about Caring Bridge updates without having to type them all in?? That one could be my ignorance. I hope so.
Finally, the phone app (as mentioned by other reviewers) needs work. I see garbage characters in the phone app I don't see on my Mac Air. Also I posted two pics online and only one showed up on the app. How bout some of that "tribute" money going to fix these bugs??
Great app and service, but having first problems recently
This is a great app to help share notifications when people are battling an illness or in the hospital and it's too much to keep up with updates. Our family has used this through several cancer journeys. One of the cancers was brain cancer and my dad could not remember weeks in the ICU. In this case it was a great way for him to look back. I want to use it for a friend's transplant next week but it seems to be a little buggy right now on the iPhone. Please fix!! I trust this site and don't want to switch to a new one!
