NOTE: Your Carousel server must be running Carousel version 7.0.0 or later and have an available player license. Carousel Player for Apple TV supports Carousel features excluding Interactive bulletins, portrait orientation, monitor control and video wall integration.
This version of the Carousel Player app doesn't have any new features, just a small boatload of fixes for some issues people were unfortunate enough to encounter.
We fixed an issue where if a zone only had repeating bulletins, the player would immediately crash. It was probably not on purpose that the only bulletins in the zone were set to repeat, but whether it was or wasn't, clearly, having players crash was not the intention. Rather than crashing, the player will now show the repeating bulletins until its non-repeating friends join the fun, and things will go on as expected.
Next, we fixed an issue where the player would just say "invalid channel JSON" (whatever that is) if there were fonts missing from the Carousel server. This isn't fair, our player had nothing to do with the fonts going missing, some other player probably hid them. Regardless, our player would never show any content in this state. Now, whenever we can't find a font, we'll replace it with everyone's favorite font: Comic Sans, err, Arial.
Another issue was that an invalid streaming video feed could completely derail the player and cause it to crash. In the event a video feed doesn't work, we'll just skip over it instead.
There was one last thing that made the app go berserk. It didn't come up much, but when it did, it was crazy. Occasionally, when changing channels, the app would show bulletins at a frenzied pace instead of waiting for their allotted time. The app took a lesson in patience and now correctly respects the bulletin timing, even after changing a channel.
Lastly, there was a case that a digital clock could be drawn larger than could fit on its zone, that's fixed up too.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
