What's New in Version 4.0
Greetings, meatbags! Fitness overlord CARROT here with a huge update that will help ensure you’re ready to fight in the human vs. ostrich cage matches I’m preparing.
A complete redesign, featuring new workout and history screens: my Maker has rebuilt virtually the entire app. I’ve never looked so pretty!
Apple Watch App
Now you can use your Apple Watch as a heads-up display for my workouts. Even better, I’ll display live heart rate and calorie burn data as you sweat your way through my exercises.
Many of the features that you previously had to level up to unlock are now available right when you first start using the app. So now you don’t have to wait to punish yourself with longer exercise times.
… And More!
If all that wasn’t enough, there’s a lot more packed in this update, including new dialogue, 3D Touch shortcuts, and a plethora of bug fixes and performance improvements.
Reviews reset with each update on the App Store. If you’re enjoying our special time together, please take a moment to leave a review. It’d warm the cockles of my emotional coprocessor!
My Overlord asked
CARROT has requested a review so in order to keep my mistress pleased I will write an honest review.
I love this app. I love all the CARROT apps this far. Most fitness apps are too serious for me to truly enjoy. I am not a fitness minded person. I like video games, sitting indoors, and being overall lazy. But I also like playing sports with my friends (I do have them surprisingly).
But I am in such bad shape it makes the sports really hard to enjoy. Most fitness apps try to encourage you through motivational speeches and clever stories. Don't get me wrong those work great for some people. I am just not one of them. I need an AI construct like GLados to instruct me. CARROT satisfied that need pretty well. It is much enjoyable for me to have a snarky AI companion that doesn't really appreciate me yet is willing to help me.
Now for my four star rating. CARROT like her personality tends to be unstable at times. Perhaps it's my lack of performance but she often crashes the first few attempts. And at times the Apple Watch will not properly connect. But it usually just takes a couple times and it works. I am running IOS 10.2 on a 7+
So if you are like me and can't take a typical fitness app seriously because it is just too serious than CARROT is probably what you are looking for.
Problems with Apple Watch
I really love this app. Works great on the iPhone, however problems arise when you attempt to do the seven minute workout using your Apple Watch. When the watch face times out the 30 second counter for exercises slows down and I think may actually stop until you raise your wrist and then the timer continues making each exercise obviously longer than 30 seconds. Also when the watch face times out you don't always hear or get an Obvious tap to signify that the exercises is over. One final comment is that when doing the very last exercise which is the tasteful modeling on the phone you get a prompt to switch sides this does not happen on the watch.
While I somewhat like the new interface and love that they finally fixed the time glitch, I have to say I don't like being forced through the tutorial again. According to the app, I've done squats 235 times. I think I know how by now. Still fairly good update.
Update: dropped another star because of the inability to randomize all exercises while keeping one or more switched off. I injured myself pretty bad when I messed up one awhile back and would have liked for that one to remain out of the repertoire.
