Legally carrying can be a difficult responsibility, the various federal, state and municipal laws form a complex web of legal traps that can put you on the wrong side of the law without even knowing. Carry Alerts is the only app that helps you carry legally by monitoring your location and alerting you when you are close to a so called "gun free zone". Carry Alerts is configurable to match your federal, state, and local laws and also allows you to adjust the sensitivity to suit your day to day usage and manage battery life.
NOTE: Even with settings adjustments continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
Fixed issue with background notifications and location permissions due to iOS 8 change

This app falls short of being a reliable aid in keeping you out of restricted areas. It fails to show many federal buildings that could land you in prison for carrying: a glaring omission. It also does not show you the no-gun zones applicable to your state. For example: in VA, some parks are OK for carry, while others are not. You can't tell from this app. It controls what it shows you through categories, which are far too broad in scope. My opinion is that they need to add functionality making the app specific to your area. They also need to flag STATE BORDERS, which they don't do: another glaring omission.
I should have paid better attention to the description.
The developer seems to have abandoned this app. No updates beyond 1.0. I have now abandoned this app. Dropping to 2 from 4.
Four stars for being a clean and polished app making good use of the settings. However, the inability to provide updates to the database leaves this app lacking. My first drive uncovered bad data the very first alert. And passing by several businesses showed no results. Not being able to add data, nor update existing, makes this app something I will have to use alongside other CCW-based apps.
I realize this is a v1.0 so I am keen to see what improvements the developer will make in the future. This is a keeper app. I will keep an eye out for updates to see if it begins adding features. If it does, I will update my review.
Do not waste your time or money buying this app. You turn off all categories and they still appear active. This app does not function like 99.9% of all iOS apps. Instructions are very poor. In MO MANY categories do not apply and you cannot make them inactive (turn off). For example within 5 miles of my location the app shows 29 places that you should not carry a weapon when in fact there are only 2 that are correct. However there are 19 other locations not shown that you cannot carry.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
