Actual News! Just News!
I am so sick of the opinion/editorial presentation of the news from every channel. Have you noticed that roughly 40% of CNN’s stories on their app are reporting on their own’s reporters various opinions and takedowns? Literally, right now, for example; “Don Lemon: Trump is distracting you from this...” Fox is not much different. I have often lamented that Headline News no longer runs a news loop. Enter CBSN. CBSN runs just news; no spin; no opinion; no editorial. I can tune in at any time and get a run down of the days events. The stories on the app, similarly, are almost exclusively reporting without spin. I am now, thanks to CBSN, able to form my own opinion of a particular event without having someone else’s thrust upon me. THANK YOU CBSN!
I am so sad that they changed their format and have struggled with this app ever since.
I used to use it daily both for the written stories and the video. Now I find the video significantly less user friendly, inserting many more and longer commercials, devoid of the very useful ability to switch back and forth between live and recent story coverage and I have yet to discover how to switch back to the written story text-- even after closing and reopening the app.
I used to enjoy the very intuitive indexing feature that allowed one to switch between national, international, sports and additional features such as 60 minutes stories. If these are still here, I've been unable to view them.
I still enjoy the quality of the reporting, however the app is so deeply flawed that I will be seeking an alternative as my main news source.
Solid, But With Annoyances
I just came back to complain about this, forgetting that I already had several years ago. One well, I guess they don't care, but There's no need to change it:
In my few times using this app it appears to be, for the most part, a solid and well-put-together news app. It has, however, a few things that bother me. The first is that I prefer to use the app in portrait mode, and it works well in either landscape or portrait orientation. Unfortunately, when you play a video it switches to a full-screen horizontal view every time. Nobody wants to keep rotating their iPad for every single video so, please, give us the choice of switching only if we want to. Usually, for me, it's not necessary. Also, it would be great if we knew how long a video was before we hit the play button. Nice to know what we're getting into.
