Description

Our CoverageMap app empowers you to test network performance in areas where you live, work, and play. Not only does testing performance in your neighborhood provide you with useful insights, but the data you produce also helps carriers improve the quality of your mobile life.

The newest version of the app for iOS has expanded the functionality and ease of use found in previous versions to give you a personal network testing and comparison tool that’s better than ever. And whether you’re already familiar with our CoverageMap app or simply curious about testing mobile network performance in your neighborhood, you’ll quickly see how easy it is to get started.

New features:
• Improved user interface. Our updated app not only boasts a beautiful new user interface, but it also makes it easy to find and select the options and settings you want to use before running a test. Plus, easily identify areas that have yet to be tested, and be the first to put yourself on the map.
• A world of results on an expanded dashboard. Your test results can tell you a great deal about your daily mobile life. Get a broader understanding of your findings with new stats such as moving averages, histories, and more.
• Personalize your results. Wondering how performance with your carrier of choice compares between the office and at home? Now you can find out. Easily select multiple hexes on the map to compare your results, and find out if others are having the same experience.
• Test how you want, when you want. Set your device to automatically run performance tests continuously, or sample network conditions in the background. Stop a test at any time with either setting. When you turn background collection on, you anonymously contribute information about your device’s data performance without using your data plan.
• We want to hear from you. While we love to see more and more data points appear on the map, you can also tell us about your experience in your own words. Whether it’s something you feel requires our attention, or you just want to say you’ve had a great experience testing performance, we want to hear from you.

Great app, but why'd you strip features? (V 3.0)

No average speed for a certain hex/area? No ability to test cellular for a large amount of time? New, harder to navigate menus/lists? This app used to be stable and offer great data, data that could only be found here. But unfortunately, the developers decided to strip features. For me, the average speed feature was extremely valuable in determining the speeds to expect with a network. Every network can be fast when it's not under load, what really matters are the speeds that users usually receive. For example, in Saint Louis, AT&T has a max speed of 106 Mbps and Verizon has a max speed of 80 Mbps. However, AT&T only had an average of 14 Mbps, compared to Verizon's average of 25 Mbps. Some people could see this and say that AT&T is faster, when really, Verizon would be faster. The design looks nice, and I like the new speedtest, but like many others, I just wish that the critical features like average speed weren't removed.

Broken for months

"Improved user interface" is very subjective. The new user interface is pretty but has seriously fatal flaws:

1. Everything is small now, all the controls are tiny. Makes it impossible to use in a car or on a bike or whatever.

2. The new color scheme is very pastel, light colors. Hard to see in sunlight.

We'll have to see if they fixed the bug that tests run never get uploaded - they have been broken for that for several versions.

It does not require Verizon - it works on any carrier. They just made switching your carrier way more confusing and obtuse.

Seriously, this new UI is a step backward for usability. Its pretty though.

Root Metrics just keeps making this one worse. At least Open Signal, and Speedtest and other network testing apps are still OK, I just use them instead.

Removal of features ruined this app

Average speed was probably the most useful piece of information the old version on the app had. Data speeds fluctuate wildly in areas over time and the average speed indicator was close to what you might actually experience. Now we have unrealistically optimistic numbers.... Bummer.
