What's New in Version 2.7
Our crackerjack dev team has dramatically improved performance and stability.
I like this app so much that this is one of the very few I've paid for and the only one I've reviewed. But it asked when I opened it, and maybe it's just the wine writing, but I decided to go ahead and do it.
And here's the thing: I don't really think it deserves five stars, if only because it's not perfect. I've lost script revisions due to syncing issues with my computer. It needs a few more features that the desktop version has. And worst of all, it started Capitalizing every time I start bring up the keyboard again, even when it's not at the beginning of a sentence; which isn't how anything else works on my iPad. And that frustrates me, as I hate weird Capitalizations.
Thus said, I don't even use the desktop version anymore, and now type all my scripts on my iPad. Sure, I can't type as fast, but I use my iPad as much as I can for anything that works better that way, and that definitely goes for this app. I love the ease of taking it anywhere I want to be, including pacing around my house drunk while fine tuning my screenplays late at night...like I'm about to do right as soon as I finish typing this. And if they'd go ahead and fix a few issues, including the weird Capitalizing thing, I would pay for it all over again (but don't tell them that.) Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a screenplay to write.
Hard to argue with
It just works. There used to be a few bugs that have been weeded out with updates. I haven't had any issues for a while.
There aren't a lot of bells and whistles but I like that. There's more than meets the eye and some great tools for tracking character but the formatting works so well and so fast that I can't see any reason to pay for a program that does.
If you can spare five bucks I've used it a lot on my iPhone for small edits and iPad (with a bluetooth keyboard) too and the mobile functionality is excellent. I basically write anywhere or time I want.
Word of warning: when using the cloud across multiple platforms be sure to save and close a project every time you put it down. You can loose entire drafts switching platforms carelessly. I don't really think it's celtx fault, just a fact of life with the cloud age.
Almost really great!
I started using this app about two years ago because I couldn't afford Final Draft. I love it, with just a couple caveats. I use the iPad version probably 3x more often than the desktop version, mainly because I always have my iPad with me so I can knock out some pages whenever the muse strikes me. However, like several other reviewers, I sometimes have difficulty with the sync function. I'm working from the Celtx cloud, and often I find that my latest work from my iPad has not been updated when I open a script in the desktop application. Other than that, the title page issue should really be fixed by now. All that said, I love it and use it daily.
