Central Park NYC Lite for iPod/iPhone
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
--This Lite version includes the core functionality of the Central Park HD app, but is supported through iAds--
Central Park NYC is a beautifully-rendered, interactive map of New York's Central Park, containing most major landmarks, paths and roads. Bordering streets and subway stops are also indicated, as well as park activities such as boat and bike rental locations. You may tap on points of interest directly on the map to get more information, or select them from a list of more than a hundred sites to be shown their location in park. Discover Strawberry Fields, Sheep's Meadow, Bethesda Fountain, Summit Rock, Shakespeare Garden, Belvedere Castle, the Zoo and countless other NYC favorites for the first time, or for the 100th!
Need to find the nearest bathroom? Central Park NYC includes the locations of all public restrooms in the park.
Want some background information on that statue you are looking at? Most points of interest are augmented with information from Wikipedia and other public resources.
Feeling lost? Owners of 3G iPhones and iPads can hit the 'find me' button and Central Park will show you exactly where you are in the park.
(For 1st gen iPhones and iPods, as well as WIFI iPads, your general location will be indicated as closely as the available data allows, but this can be quite erratic in the park as there is very little positioning info to go on without GPS!)
What's New in Version 2.5
1) more points of interest
2) extensive history for many points of interest, gathered from Park historians
This basic app came in very handy for tracking down the spots in the park we most wanted to see. As a map, it's very basic, so don't expect turn-by-turn directions or anything like that. Everything else was great, though, from showing where POI are, to the information about them, to the SOS feature showing where water fountains and bathrooms are. This app won't hold your hand, but I definitely recommend it.
Good Basic App
Good map, good information in the pop-ups.
Wish it would tell you how to get from where you are to a selected location you are trying to get to.
Would also be useful if it would give you to option of "Heads-up" navigation, in other words oriented itself to the direction you were walking. Very often we found ourselves walking to opposite way we intended.
Still overall a good app.
What a great application for learning your way around central park. I love the option that allows for additional information. I will definitely make use of the many features. This will really make strolling around central park quite a learning experience (and a LOT of fun!).
