Chai allows you to keep a close watch on your energy usage and how much that energy is costing. By collecting energy data directly from your utility provider, it can predict your next utility bill, help you track your energy savings and it will even pay you to save energy! You’ll also receive customized energy conservation tips and savings opportunities based on your actual energy use. I like the concept and went ahead and bought the pro hardware which consists of a gateway to access real-time data from your smart meter. When I attempted to follow the instructions to register the gateway with SCE the website said I didn’t have any eligible accounts. I tried requesting support, but there’s no phone number and the chat feature just makes you leave a message which hasn’t been returned after multiple attempts over the course of a week. On my own I discovered that not all smart meters support Home Area Network (HAN) devices. Not impressed and still waiting.
This is an excellent app to track your electricity use. If you have a smart meter and install a gateway you can get real time energy monitoring. If you don’t have the gateway you can still get information, just delayed a day or two though.
I am very happy with this app.
When it works it is great. Setup is a bit tedious. What I find is that more often than not it fails to connect. As it stands now I would not recommend it. Often it is days behind in reporting rather than showing current usage.
