The CHAiOS Synth is an easy-to-use synthesizer for iPad. Including basics like different waveforms, envelope, filters and effects, you can create random melodies in a slightly different way of using a common synth. CHAiOS Synth was made during a project by University of Applied Sciences Duesseldorf.
Not only for musicians! Just play, explore and get creative.
What's New in Version 1.2
- Improved iOS8-support
- Added Audiobus2-support
- Minor bug-fixes
Fun but limited.
I had some fun with this app coming up with some nice random melodies and it's certainly easy enough to play. I'd love to use this for recording but unfortunately this doesn't have core midi connectivity. It does give you some options to customize your sound such as ADSR and sound wave selection but it's very limited. If I could use it to control my own synths then it would be a fantastic tool. A grid might also be nice on the playing surface so you know exactly where the change points are. It would just make it a little more playable.
I'd love to have a little more control over sequences, like creating my own and then saving them to the playing area. Even without that though, just the ability to hook up through Midi to one of my own synths would be enormous.
It works with Audiobus so it is recordable on the iPad. That's a big plus. The lack of Midi is a pretty big thing though. Without that it's extremely limited, almost too much so.
I do realize that it is called CHAiOS Synth but the ability to re-create live my recordings made with it is important. This is why I suggest a grid which, in order to maintain the chaos element, could be optional.
Ultimately, I think this is a great idea but just needs a little more work.
