From the makers of FINAL FANTASY and FINAL FANTASY II comes a brand new RPG masterpiece for the iPhone and iPod touch!!
CHAOS RINGS takes full advantage of the iPhone and iPod touch’s capabilities. Using a classic game system that any RPG fan will enjoy, it presents an epic tale consisting of four different scenarios, all brought to you with gorgeous sound and unbelievably smooth 3D graphics.
The story revolves around a tournament where combatants fight for their lives: the Ark Arena. Upon choosing a pair of characters, one male and one female, you will then have to fight against the other pairs. Each pair has their own story, and the truth behind the Ark Arena will not be revealed until each story is completed.
-Amazingly smooth 3D graphics
-Gorgeous sound that takes full advantage of the iPhone and iPod touch’s powerful hardware
-A deep story with unique twists for every pair and multiple endings
-Traditional game and battle systems polished to perfection
-Hours upon hours of gameplay, complete with hidden bosses, secret weapons, and more
- The New York Times
Chaos Rings is the only title I will be playing for quite some time, outside of my normal review requirements.
The turn-based fighting is gratifying and never got old, and the story and character development remains immersive even in short play sessions.
- Touch Arcade
The iPhone finally has its own triple-A Square Enix RPG that actually reaches the heights of a Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger.
- Slide to Play
The story, and characters found within Chaos Rings are the most interesting and intriguing I have come across for the iPhone, and perhaps I have to go back to Final Fantasy VII to find it’s equal.

I admit, the storyline was absolutely captivating, and the music and graphics were incredible. True, these factors determine a large part of the game, but its definitely not all. I finished this game at level32, in 5 hours and 2 minutes. Come on, I didn't pay close to 10 whole dollars to play a game that lasts shorter than a day of school -_- The final boss was laughable; the cutscene in the middle of the boss battle says something like "oh no we haven't even scratched him", but in truth? I already had his health down to about 30-40% left.
I've played games that lasted 2, 3 times longer than this one, and costed about twice as little. If this game was 3 dollars, maybe even 4, I would most certainly give it a 5 star review. But the lack of content, lack of difficulty (the hardest puzzle took me about 30 seconds more than the others), and abrupt ending totally killed the experience for me. So much potential... Wasted... Until Chaos Rings 2 is about 50% cheaper, I won't even consider buying it.
Long story short, this game has all the factors an rpg player wants and looks for, but it's gameplay is rather.. Smothered and limited.
But missed the mark in a few key areas. Fights are almost always most effective by just selecting the standard "attack", rather than having to strategize over a variety of special attacks. The boss fights were too easy and lacked that "epic" feel. However if youre just looking for a typical iOS rpg you will probably be satisfied. The story direction is very much like most square enix titles where you are entrusted in saving the world by strange coincidences, but is centered around a very small tournament and is VERY limited. The graphics and creature design are great and some of the environments look great as well, though they are incredibly confined to just a few steps between areas. This isn't a wide open rpg bent on exploring, rather it's very linear, as you could expect from an iOS game.
3/5 simply due to the hefty price and my high expectations for square enix products. Otherwise would deserve a 4/5
People are giving this 3.5 - 4 stars? I've played many, many games in my life and Chaos Rings is one of the best. Therein you'll find a deep, dark storyline that's nothing short of touching. The environments are gorgeous. The Japanimation is awesome, and character emotions are palpable. The controls are perfect. The little mini-puzzles are very fun and not frustrating at all. They provide a nice change of pace and I don't usually like puzzles at all. The combat system is unique and engaging. Combat is somewhat easy at times but you can ramp up the difficulty level in each environment. Chaos Rings is a no-brainier 5 star masterpiece. Any RPG fan should buy it without hesitation.
