We like maps of where we ran. But we're inspired by a vision for where we're going.
Which is why we made Charity Miles: To help you change the world by earning corporate sponsorships for charity when you walk, run or bike.
Just choose a charity and hit the streets. As you walk, run or bike, the app will measure your distance and you will help earn money for your charity. This challenge term (June 1, 2015 - May 31, 2016), we will be paying our sponsorship pool (currently $530,000) to our charity partners in proportion to the miles done for each.
But we're not just about earning money for charity. We're about carrying a purpose in our hearts and telling our stories through our actions.
Because we believe that action speaks louder than words. And changing the world is a team sport.
We'd love to have you on our team. Every mile matters!
*Please note: continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
What's New in Version 3.1.8
-Rollback miles fixed!
I like the idea of this app and its execution very much except for two critiques: it never tells me how much money I've made for the charity on a single/current workout. Only tells me how much was made "this term" and it's in the thousands so it really doesnt help me. And second, it doesn't tell me how long a workout has been going on until afterward when I can check in history. I'd like for there to be a stopwatch counting up while I'm in the middle of a workout or perhaps an option that allows you to count down from an hour and then ends your workout then automatically.
Ps I still don't know how much money is made per mile!! And I'd like to.
I love the concept, but...
I love the concept of the application and it's great to use my personal fitness to donate to more charities than I can with just my salary. But using the app is a bit disappointing.
I continue to receive popups saying it requires my Location Services when I have it set to "While Using the App." There is absolutely no reason to provide my location 24/7. And my location is certainly not necessary when I'm not using it.
The more upsetting issue is the app is a huge battery hog. I can't use it if I'm going on a run of more than 30 minutes; because my battery will be almost drained, or dead, by the time I get back.
I started out for a long run last Saturday at 100%. My cellphone battery was dead in 45 minutes!
The only other app that has ever done this was the MapMy brand of apps. I don't use them anymore.
I will keep this app because Charity Miles does great things. But I will only use it for very short runs/walks; preferably on a treadmill that has a usb charging cable/port.
March 27, 2016 Update
No longer frustrated thanks to a lot of help from Gene at Charity Miles. On my iPhone 5c, simply held the CM app until it jiggled and showed the option to delete (an "x" in upper left corner). Then took the leap to delete (even though it said data would be deleted); next found the CM app in the Apple app by clicking on "updates", tapped the cloud symbol which reinstalled the CM app on my home screen. Now have a working app and didn't lose my data!
