Comprehensive online banking app, very different from phone app
The Chase iPad app is very different from their phone app. This makes sense considering that the screen space on a tablet is markedly more generous than on a phone, which leads the tablet app to almost require a different design than the phone app. I use both and generally prefer the tablet app over the phone app in spite of the phone app appearing to have more complete functionality than the tablet app.
I like both the iPhone app and the iPad app better than their redesigned web site. Regrettably, I have to go to the regular web site every now and then to gain access to things like statements. I can access statements from the iPhone app, but can't from the iPad app. Unfortunately, Chase is allowing the phone app to be developed more aggressively than the iPad app, and the iPad app is starting to look long in the tooth.
Keep this in mind when using online banking apps on your phone or tablet; you must have known good credentials to online banking through a regular web browser on a computer before you start using online banking apps. If you are having trouble logging into online banking on an app, try the web site first from a computer. If that doesn't work, then get your login credentials straightened out with your bank first and then attempt to log in again. Keep in mind, if you can't log into an online banking app, it isn't the apps fault, it's yours.
I like it
I have a mortgage, 2 credit cards, a savings, and checking account and love how all accounts are presented with payment due dates/amount due easily visible. However, when I tap on the account, there should be a link to tap to make a payment. I found myself only looking at account activity and it took me a little while to find how to make a payment. There was a tiny 'I' icon for information. Although this is similar to the mobile app, I don't feel I should have to search/think that hard to make a payment. I even went to the transfer button first to see if I can move money from one account to another, but no that is only for transfers between checking/savings accounts. I do prefer this over the mobile site because I find it ridiculous that I have to enter my password after the fingerprint ID just to make a payment. I would like for Touch ID to be available on this app, but if they require me to enter my password then there is no real convenience to adding this feature. Three stars...I'm going to stop thinking because I may drop it to two.
Marginally better than their 'new' website
Now that Chase has completely screwed up their once easy to use and fully functional website, I had hopes for the app. The upside is that the available information is clear and nicely presented. The downside is that there is far less information available. (To be fair, it's no longer available on the website either, which leads to ridiculous situations like the mortgage department informing me by email that a new escrow analysis was available, with links to the atrocious website that has no such information. I'll have to wait until the USPS delivers the paper copy, smh.)
So please, give me an app that has the information I need, or the old version of the website. Both would not seem like an unreasonable request. If there was another way to send my reviews/complaints (other than phone numbers or firing up my long dormant desktop computer), I wouldn't feel like I owe an apology to the phone rep who let me vent, but could only offer apologies.
