“if you’re looking to conduct a few experiments of your own, the virtual chem lab in Chemist is a fun, safe way to get started.” - Apple
Chemist is your portable chemistry lab. It’s the only virtual chemistry lab for iPad to conduct chemistry experiments, explore chemistry reactions with different lab tools. Try mixing chemicals by pouring them into beakers or test tubes. You can also heat the chemicals with a bunsen burner, or put a piece of cesium into water.
In Chemist, you can pour chemicals into beakers, mix them and then use the burette with the suck-and-release action as you would in real life. The 3D stage enables the parallax effect from different angles, so you can do everything as if you are in a real lab.
Chemist has a built-in database with more than 200 chemical reagents. What’s more, additional chemical reagents will be added periodically through the online database CloudLab for more unprecedented chemical reactions.
Conduct dangerous experiments without worrying about breaking beakers or getting cut by broken glass. Turn off the Explosive option to disable all explosions. Or turn on Kid Mode to eliminate all hazardous chemicals from the app.
Use Label tool to trace the accurate mass, temperature, density and volume of every substance in containers as the reactions are happening. Or simply tap on a chemical reagent to read the basic information about it.
SHARE AND GROUP WORKS
Use different tools to measure more than one beaker at the same time. Or invite a friend to hold a thermometer for you while you are mixing the chemicals.

What's New in Version 3.5.1
- Fixed issues that make the app unusable after re-opening.
- Fixed a naming issue in Lab Report.
Great if you already know a thing or two about chemistry
I've wanted this exact app forever. But it still has a few design problems that don't ruin it, but are too big to ignore. You can't search for elements, there's no names attached to the beakers and burners, the whole app smells slightly of rushed, slapdash design. Of course it does what it does well, which is simulate chemical reactions. But you can't get much use out of it if you don't already know a thing or two or ten about chemistry.
At least some reactions happen. But the educational value is dubious since "bug" phenomenon out number reactions. Helium doesn't escape from an open cup, nor does anything else. There's nothing like heat conduction or thermodynamics: mixtures have separate and bizarrely unrelated temperatures for each component. Worse, it's hard to derive any principals of chemistry other than discovering a list of pre-programmed reactions by trial and error. This conveys a sense of chemistry being about route memorizations rather than understanding. The app runs painfully slow, lagging severely with even a modest setup.
Simple and powerful
This is the best educational app I've ever used. It's amazing! It's easy to use and very intuitive. I love the powerful offline database. I strongly recommend this app to school kids who are interested in science. Very engaging!
