Our Best Recommendation:
Our best recommendation for understanding ChordMapMidi is to watch the video demonstrations at the support website. (The URL is listed below.) Thank you.
ChordMapMidi is an app for songwriters, worship team members, band members, music educators, and music students. It allows anyone to create strong chord progressions "live," one finger tap at a time. If you enjoy exploring chords, while playing an instrument you can hold in the palm of your hand, ChordMapMidi is for you!
PLEASE NOTE: ChordMapMidi doesn't create any sounds on its own. It sends commands over virtual midi to other sound-generating apps you may already have on your device.
To see which apps we highly recommend for the sound-generating part of the process, please visit the support website.
While at the website, you might want to look at the 4-page Quick-Start set of instructions (and perhaps print a copy).
HOW IT WORKS -
ChordMapMidi is based on the chord progression diagrams developed by music educator, Stephen Mugglin. The goal is to allow anyone, even beginning musicians and songwriters, to effortlessly play interesting chord progressions, one finger tap at a time.
The idea behind the Maps is to start at the location labelled I (One), jump from there to another location in the chart, and then work your way back toward I (One) by letting "gravity" pull you down the chart.
Although the diagrams may look unusual at first, the user experience is so simple that even beginners can play strong-sounding progressions right away. You simply touch one location at a time and then listen to the sound each location makes.
After a short time exploring, you'll find you can play all kinds of progressions easily, in 12 different major keys, just by jumping around and tapping the various map locations.
Have fun writing and exploring, and "Play Live!"
I have just about every midi controller and didn't think I needed another one, but this is so very different! It does inversions and complex chordings and it is just really awesome. With this, you can choose wrong chords and actually be more musical as you hear and feel them. It is truly remarkable when paired with grain science, thumbjam, and the arpeggiator on Cassini. Don't pass up this awesome controller. On each of the pads, you can set it up to play three separate chordings as well as the inversion and octave buttons. No regrets getting this great tool.
Cool idea, but no updates for 3 years now. Thankfully virtual midi still works (for now). Also the dev promised to bring us minor key but that never happened. This really needs update for iPad graphics at least.
This app rocks
Easy as one, two, three. It's also a big plus in doing rapid chord voicings without having to pick and pluck chords out on tiny synth keyboards!
