What Happened To My Kids?!
I've tried the chore charts in the past and I've written chores on paper. Both have sort of worked but have received grumbles and half completed chores depending on the kids moods. I happened to see an advertisement for the app the night before a snow day from school and thought what the heck?! I'm going to leave them chores the next day anyways, why not have them listed out on their iPods and give them a reward. Now I listed chores that were both daily items they should be doing anyways (brushing teeth) along with extras (laundry, making meals, etc) and I have most chores 5 points. I gave them a couple small chores that night so they could see how it worked. I also gave them a pretty small reward that I felt would take them awhile to get to. I didn't want to promise them the moon and have to live up to that same promise every time they met the reward. To my absolute shock, my 12 yr old was begging for chores so she could get to 50 points by the end of the first night. Sitting at work I'm getting texts asking if she can do laundry for points?! She even asked if she could do her 6 yr old brothers chores to get his points! LOVE this app. When I read the reviews I thought no way would my kids be begging for chores. They help around the house but it's usually not by choice! PARENTS, DOWNLOAD THIS APP TODAY!!!!!
We are using this with our six year old son. After trying allowances, responsibility charts, and threats and cajoling, this app has landed with him in a meaningful way. The point system in simple and the ability to craft rewards and chores, as well as the ability to adjust on the fly, makes for a great incentive tool. There is also a Windows 8 app that syncs all data, so he is able to access his chores on any device...no excuses! Would like to see an ability to have more control over the increments of points. Also, would like to restrict the frequency that a low point reward can be redeemed. It's important to have low point rewards for the instant gratification element, but if it could be adjusted to be redeemed say every two days or thereabouts would be useful.
Chore Monsters in our house
We've been using this app for a week now and I can tell you that not only has this app been fun for the kids (ages 8, 12, 14) but it's also resulted a substantial decrease in the stress level related to chore times. We've now got three chore monsters in the house! They can't wait to get them done. We would like to see a bit more flexibility in chore assignments and due dates for daily, weekly, and monthly chores so the kids can look ahead and space the completion of their chores instead of them just appearing on the day they are due. Other than that, it's been perfect for our family.
