Bonus game won't work without Big Fish App installed.
I paid 6.99 for the game plus the bonus content. But after finishing the main game, when I went to play the bonus game, it refused to play, saying I needed to have the Big Fish App installed. Although I'd considered getting the app in the past, I don't like the idea of being strong-armed into it. There was no indication that getting everything I paid for with this game was contingent on installing more of Big Fish's self-advertising -- as if having their ads flashing in your face every time you start one of their iPad games isn't bad enough. The game itself was OK, though I liked the previous game (The Nutcracker) better. This game copied a lot of things from the last game - both music and characters. I didn't have crashes or other technical problems while playing the main game, though I have no idea if I would have had problems with the bonus game since I refuse to be forced into installing the Big Fish App and will probably never buy another one of their so-called "Collector's" versions for iPad. Too bad I didn't see the other review that mentioning this rip-off, but at the time I bought the game none of the reviews were showing up in my iTunes so I didn't realize there were any to check.
Problem accessing Strategy Guide
Due to lack of space, my iPad will not completely download the Big Fish games page, which means the Strategy Guide will not work, even though I have already paid full price for the game. I am unhappy with this situation, which also occurs with other Big Fish games I have purchased. Otherwise, I would definitely have rated this Elephant game five stars. Just like last years Christmas game, A Christmas Carol has a very interesting story line. Scrooge is miserable, and you are asked to go back in the past with the ghosts and change his history. The scenery is detailed and beautiful. The puzzles and hidden object scenes are well lit and make sense in the context of the story. I love the angel who has the ability to animate inanimate objects. Love the climbing kitty! You see Scrooge and his property through all the stages of his life, from beautiful to ruined. That gives the player impetus to want to help Scrooge repair his mistakes of the past. Fun for some Christmas downtime!
Needs elf help!
Okay. There is good fun and holiday cheer here, but it's marred by far too many crashes; clearly the title was rushed to market for the holidays, but with nowhere near enough "Q.A." What a shame: it's a fine concept, but with major missed opportunities. And a big lump of coal to Big Fishes' executive stocking for not displaying a bit more seasonal cheer on that $6.99 price tag - especially since they released something that crashes like a beta test version!
Given the rich source material, only the most famous, beloved Christmas novel of them all, the play-thru seem bland and the environments fail to exploit the art and mood of the Victorian era and Dickens' London. While correctness of period detail and historic accuracy are *not* reason we play these games, some traditionalists may balk at massive liberties taken with their beloved Xmas opus.
Still and all there's some good fun, though Big Fish should be driving their quality assurance elves on overtime to patch this game before Santa arrives!! A goodwill discount on another title might be in order as well!
