This app was my hero when I broke my Apple TV remote. I had restored the Apple TV and couldn’t connect it to a wifi network without a remote to control it. Searched the internet, tried every solution in the book, and then I discovered CiderTV. It was able to act as a bluetooth keyboard and pair to my Apple TV so that I could connect it to a wifi network. Now I can use the Apple TV Remote app on my phone, but wasn’t able to until the tv & app were connected to the same wifi. Thank you! *Giving it only 4 stars because a few months later I moved into a new place and had the same issue again, needed bluetooth keyboard to pair restored ATV to new wifi network, but this time I couldn’t get CiderTV to connect. I think I’m just going to have to give in and buy a new remote. Oh well.
Works great, just like the description says it should!
If you need an apple tv remote for your apple laptop or desktop, this is a perfect solution.
The only thing I would like to see it have in the future (as a feature request) would be to set up the remote so it could pause video too. I’m trying to pause shows on netflix by using the “OK” button, like I would with the apple remote, but unfortunately it doesn’t work like that currently.
I LOVE using the arrows and enter keys on my keyboard to navigate around however, thanks for making this and I’d be happy to pay something nominal to continue app development. $2.99 to $4.99/download?
It took me a while to get my MacBook Pro to connect to the Bluetooth but it seemed to work like a charm after that…for a little while. Then it crashed. Finally got it working again after a full restart but then the on-screen buttons seemed to be mis-assigned, performing the action of a different button. Also, when I click on the (?) button in the upper right corner, a guide pops up very breifly, never to be seen again, despite further button clicking. Pretty frustrating experience over all. That being said, for the short time it worked it was pretty awesome to controll my Apple TV from my MBP’s keyboard. I just wish it was more stable/functional. Probably won’t use it unless these issues are addressed.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
