Cipher for iMessage lets you send secret and digitally signed messages with Touch ID.
Now you have an easy way of sharing secret information (like passwords, phone numbers, etc). The recipient of your message will be asked to authenticate using Touch ID (or device passcode), thus ensuring that only the device owner will see your message.
You can also use Cipher to digitally sign your message with Touch ID. A digital signature assures the recipient that the message indeed came from you, because you authenticated with Touch ID (or device passcode).
The free version of Cipher enables you to view secret and digitally signed messages you receive. Upgrade to Pro via the in-app purchase to unlock sending secret and signed messages.
Cipher is gone completely free now. Enjoy!
Ratings and Reviews
A brilliant idea with easy-to-use execution
Many people who wish to use encryption with their messaging use Signal, which is an excellent app. However, Cipher allows for an easier-to-use, faster approach to encryption and digitally-signed secure messages, right within the Messages app we all use frequently everyday. Now that it’s free (even for the Pro version), there’s no reason not to use it!
An Extra Layer of Security
iMessages are end to end encrypted, Cipher offers important additions to this.
1. Your messages require device passcode to unlock.
2. You can authenticate your message with a digital signature.
If being able to personally identify yourself and the recipient is important to you then Cipher offers an excellent value.
Bad for the user and others down the road
Could be used to get more cert info making a big security flaw for most of apple products. See cia reacherch
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
