Good..... but.....

Been using this service for over a year and I really like it. That said, two major issues:
1). As soon as your kid gets a Chromebook from school you loose 100% of any control this product provides. Schools often use a VPN to ensure control over safe browsing. When this happens not only can do you lose control over app content (which I understand based on how VPNs work) but you also lose the ability to control screen time. The kids run out of time on the phone or tablet and then just use the Chromebook since it can’t be managed. Unlimited time.

2). The kids are using all sorts off apps that aren’t identified in the filter. When you go to “Usage” you’ll find the bulk of the time is in the “uncategorized” section with only an IP address to identify it. A good example is Amino which is a community app with some really questionable content. I’m sure most folks don’t know how to run a WHOIS command to track this down. And even then it’s often uninformative. Suggest Circle hires a couple folks to look at the top uncategorized sites and capture the content so we know the app that is associated to the IP address. Many of these addresses now go to a company that builds/operates apps for their clients. As such much of the information you would want from the app isn’t there. As a parent you are left blind on the bulk of internet usage. I hope the Product Manager for the app can prioritize something like this in the near term backlog.

Yes! This is absolutely one of our ongoing priorities with an entire team dedicated to Platforms and making sure Usage is accurate. Would you mind emailing us at and mentioning this review as well as what sites/IP addresses are showing up?

Very helpful parenting tool!

This has helped our parenting skills & to keep firm limits with them! The task of parenting in the digital age is daunting.
So many things that can be harmful for them & it hard to constantly be up to date on everything. With phones, home computers, tablets, tv’s & video game consoles all having access to the internet. It’s impossible to constantly monitor what they are on especially as they get older. Also at the age where we have more kids hanging out or sleepover with phone. It helps me know when in my house there is some level of protection from them viewing things they aren’t ready for.
We struggled with them following our time limits for video games. Which has now ended!
I may be a mean parent, but I’ve read the research & I don’t allow mine on social media of any kind right now. There is plenty of rime for that when their brains are ready. Social Media is blocked!
The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star is you can’t assign a device to more than one person, which I understand would be a challenge. And it would be helpful if it had more detail about what they have looked at etc. in history.

Doesn't seem to work all that well

Doesn't seem to work all that well. I got circle not knowing that it may not work well with our cable router. But once I learned that, I read about the workaround which was disabling one of the two thingies (technical term) our cable router uses. So I logged into our router and turned off access to the 5 thingie but left the 2.4 thingie. Whelp, circle still doesn't work consistently. Ive tried googling things that shouldn't come up and they will. On top of all of that, the major bummer for us is that circle doesn't stop apps that don't use the internet or that only need the Internet occasionally. We allow a lot of off internet apps and circle can do nothing to restrict those. Time limits won't apply for those either. It's my fault for not realizing that circle wouldn't work for that purpose, But still a bummer. It would be nice if there was something that could totally lock down my kids iPads and other gadgets instead of just turning off the Internet. Instead I've just decided we need to be technology free during the week. So circle hasn't really helped us at all. But it had made me realize that we have been using too much technology and I need to step up my parenting game.

Hi there! We'd love to work with you on this issue -- it sounds like things are still not filtering as you intended. Could you reach out to me at and mention this review and that you need some assistance from the escalation team? -- John L., Circle -- Customer Experience Account Manager
