What's New in Version 1.7
Say hello to the biggest update to Clear, well, ever! We’ve packed this update with three huge new features - including Clear for Apple Watch.
◆ Clear for Apple Watch
Clear for Apple Watch is the newest member of the Clear family. We’ve brought your favorite to-do and reminders app to Apple Watch, allowing you to complete existing tasks from your wrist, and create tasks and reminders via dictation! Just ask Clear to “Remind me to take the cat for a walk tomorrow morning” and we’ll make sure you get reminded (if you’re not a cat person, it’s OK - you can set any other reminders). There’s also a Glance, to show your next upcoming Reminder.
#protip: Tap the heatmap to complete a task, and use Force Touch to add new ones!
◆◆ Even if you’re not getting an Apple Watch, you’ll love this update too. ◆◆
◆ Interactive Notifications
We’ve added interactive notifications to reminders - you can complete a task by simply swiping-down on a notification and choosing “Complete”, or snooze the reminder for 15 minutes. It even works (as if by magic) on your device’s lock screen.
There’s also all-new Handoff support in every version of Clear (Watch, iPhone, iPad, Mac - we’ve been busy) so you can carry on working as you switch between your favorite devices. You can use Handoff via the Lock Screen and App Switcher on iOS, as well as the Dock and App Switcher (Cmd + Tab) on your Mac. Handoff is even supported in Clear for Apple Watch’s Glance, allowing you to quickly dive into your next upcoming reminder on your iPhone!
◆ A New Theme, and The Return of a Favorite!
Oh boy. We were going to keep theme details secret, but we’ve spilt the beans now. There’s a brand-new “Edition” theme to unlock, and we’ve made sure you can still unlock the “Vanilla” theme too.
We hope you love this huge free update to Clear, and send us your feedback. If you do <3 this update please consider taking the time to write a review on the App Store - and be sure to tell your friends about Clear for Apple Watch. Thanks for using Clear. xxx
Just a great, clean, beautiful app. You won't make the most of it unless you incorporate it into a Getting Things Done (GTD) by David Allen or similar system. I can't comment on the syncing issues since I use it 99% of the time on my 6+, but I have noticed that iCloud seems to turn off randomly at times. Bouncing around on multiple devices is a distracting way to use this app though, stick to one device to check your lists. Speaking of, my system includes lists for: next actions, someday, tickler, social, PhD, website #1, website #2. Basically lists that complement my big projects and general lists that filter and sort my regular "brain dumps"and random ideas. do yourself a favor, read GTD and get this app, don't just improvise "To Do" lists. Between Clear, the Calendar app and perhaps Evernote or the upcoming revision of Notes, you should be able to organize your life pretty darn well if you put some effort into it, good luck and may the force be with you.. (Favorite part of this app tho, besides its elegant simplicity, is the nostalgic, Mario Bros-like sounds when clearing items and lists, magic)
Still work to do.....
First, as already mentioned, the sync is unreliable. Second, the app has had an ongoing issue with data entry in landscape mode on the iPad. The problem is that data entry will allow one letter to be typed and the keyboard will disappear and data entry ends leaving you an incomplete entry. You open the entry to edit and you get to add one more letter and again the keyboard disappears. Speaking of the keyboard in landscape, it's cut off on both the right and left sides. The only "solution" I've found is to completely close the app and reopen it in the regular orientation to regain the entire keyboard then rotate back to landscape where it will work fine until the problem returns and it always does. I've removed and reinstalled clear but cannot get rid of this issue. My frustration with this app is growing. Just about ready to write it of....again....and go back to other more stable alternatives. Love the simplicity, but if these issues can't be corrected nice and for all, there's no reason to continue in wasting time with a buggy app and developer who can't or won't address the problems.
Okay, but not Great
It does what it does, but not very elegantly. Other apps do the same with more panache (and lower cost).
Looks nice, but I’m just not feeling it. It works radically differently on the three platforms — desktop, iPhone, and iPad — and that’s just a non-starter for me. I get that the dev has to accommodate the differences in the platforms, but most apps can accomplish this without requiring a huge mental shift from one to the other. I bought the app because I regularly switch between platforms. Clear makes that a bit too difficult.
If it were a more complex type of program, like a full blown task or project manager (ToDoist or Things) I could accept some degree of complexity. Likewise if it had something to offer beyond core functionality (like the ability to import tasks from iOS Reminders, a feature of many to-do programs, or a direct link to IFTTT. But it’s a list manager with no connection to outside apps. Simplicity needs to be key. Heck, even the big boys mentioned above manage to achieve consistency of UI experience across multiple platforms. Why can’t Clear?
