What's New

Version 1.7.6

Here’s a quick update to fix a couple details that went awry:

• Correct padding should be restored in the widget
• Reminder panel should be properly placed across different screen sizes

Thanks to everyone who wrote in about these, and please let us know if you find other strange things! We’re listening at

P.S. from the last update:

Many of you have written in curious or anxious about the future of the app…

Here’s what’s been happening. The guys at Impending (they worked on Clear 1.0 with us) have been cranking away at a huge rewrite and reboot effort since early this year.

It’s very important to us that this upcoming update impresses you and reminds you why you fell in love with Clear years ago.

Stay tuned on twitter @UseClear for more info later this year!

Editors’ Notes

With its clean, colorful interface and intuitive swipe controls, Clear makes managing to-do lists across multiple devices lightning-fast and almost effortless. Its rainbow-hued checklists are like miniature works of art, making it simple to tell at a glance what you need to do and how urgently you need to do it. Bells? Whistles? Nah, but that’s by design. The developers knows that creating a to-do list is about managing chores, not creating new ones.

Just a few more options needed, some wishes answered

First off this app is amazing. I love using it, and I realize its simplicity is one if its charms. I have but 3 suggestions, requests or begs...1) please allow each list to have its own color. This would make them stand out and be easier to choose from. 2) find a way to be able to easily move items from one list to another. 3) Have an undo for when you inadvertently swipe an item to the left and it disappears forever! I have done this more then a few times and not even seen what the item was before it was lost, not a good feeling. That's it and Clear would be perfect.
Issue 3 has been addressed. And I still do love this app. It’s my exterior brain. I also have a simple little trick that increased utility for me: In any list create a one line item that consists of only dashes. Then you can use this “bar” to divide the list for any number of reasons. I frequently use it as, above bar needs to happen today.

🙌 Thanks for sharing your wishlist with us Banjo! We're working on a big update now and it will include request #2! (Moving items between lists.) 👊 It's a big update though and probably a few months away but hopefully it'll hit its mark.

Stopped syncing when I upgraded to El Cap

Herb 2111

Below is my initial 5 star review, which I now changed to one star. Unfortunately, when I upgraded to El Cap the app stopped syncing. Currently it's useless. No word this year from Realmac on their plans for Clear. A shame.

Love this little app. I’ve used OmniFocus for years to manage most of my projects, but it’s been hard to find something easy and portable for little things that crop up that are too small to go to the trouble of putting in OmniFocus. Enter Clear. I use it for grocery lists, day lists, idea lists, worry lists, lists of people who are supposed to get back to me, etc., etc. When I first got the app I was worried that it would somehow add to my sense of obligations rather than free me up, but free me up it has. It’s simple to use and syncs with iCloud so it follows me wherever I am. No frills (though they just added reminders which I don’t use), but clean and spare, elegant to look at. My worry with an app like this is that some idiot at the company will get ambitious to make it do more and make it bloated and messy in the process—better being the enemy of good. So far that hasn’t happened. Fair price, too, including the $10 tag for the Mac version. Kudos all around.

Developer Response

Hey Herb, we (Impending, worked with Realmac on Clear 1.0) are back on the project as of earlier this year, and working on Clear's biggest update yet! Improving iCloud reliability is a top priority. In the meantime there's a workaround that has a chance to 'unstick' syncing for your setup, hit us up at if you'd like to give that a try.

Thank you for your support over the years and sorry we let you down here, going to see what we can do to make up for it this year!
