Cloud Outliner: Outlining tool with Evernote integration
By Denys Yevenko
Open the Mac App Store to buy and download apps.
Cloud Outliner lets you create and share outlines between your Mac, your iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch), and your Evernote account. Outlines make you efficient, naturally organizing your plans, projects and ideas in a clear way. Got a sudden flash of insight? Don't risk forgetting it – just enter it right away on whatever device is closest, and see your changes appear automatically everywhere else.
The interface has everything you need, but nothing more: optional checkboxes, full-screen mode (a productivity bonus for Lion and Mountain Lion users), printing, and OPML import/export. With iCloud sync and Evernote integration, Cloud Outliner will help you get more done, faster!

Very Good, but...
This is a very good basic outliner. Item entry is easy. Keyboard shortcuts are not too obscure. ICloud sync works perfectly for me. It will make a check box to-do list in which the items disappear as they are checked off. It will make a content centered outline for a speech or as the basis of a paper. It has two shortcomings. It only syncs through Apple’s crummy, folderless iCloud. Dropbox support would be welcome. Much more important, it has only one print format, tiny letters spread across the full width of the page. Printouts are ugly and hard to read. Prints are obviously screen dumps. Having to export to another app to get a decent print is a hassle. If they would fix these issues, Cloud Outliner would be absolutely great. Four stars and high hopes.
Crashes continually, sync barely works, other than that…ok
The app crashes constantly whether I am trying to sync or the app was sitting in the background. Using it with Evernote has been problematic. It seems incapable of keeping up with the changes in Evernote without creating multiple "conflicting changes" copies of the same file.
The main benefit to this application is being able to use the hierarchy of an outline without having to deal with formatting the levels. That said, beware that you can't change the formatting in any way, not even the font size or to use bold or italics.
I find using the mac version awkard compared to the iOS version. You're expected to create and navigate your outline with keyboard shortcuts. The navigation toolbar from the iOS version is not included.
Not Equal to One Star
This app may be useful for an Evernote user? I’m not. There seems to be no way to make use of the outline you create. You cannot save your work. You can only “Export” it in “.opml” format which few apps can read. An outline selected by title and Exported, only contains the title - no contents. My expectation is to create an outline, then transfer it to a word processor to turn it into a finished document. Since apps like Pages and MS Word cannot read “.opml” formats, your out of luck. Further, the app has very limited functionality. It feels like it was created as a coding exercise with no commercial value.
