What's New in Version 2.1
•On stories with videos, you can now scroll down to read the text of an article while watching video at the same time.
•Breaking News now appears at the top of the home screen and includes an option to close.
•Users in the United States can access a live stream of CNN and HLN TV at any time by tapping on the red “WatchCNN” button at the top of the home screen.
•We’ve made other minor bug fixes.
Too Many Videos
I love the app overall. Some small issues like it freezing for a couple of seconds after loading are something I can overlook most of the time. One of the main problems I have is too many "articles" are simply videos, so you have to watch instead of being able to read the news. This is not always the best option depending on where you are. Some videos are okay, but too many makes it pointless.
Also, there are too many repeat articles. Same article, slightly different headline. Trying to see which one gets the most hits I guess.
You guys should also include an option to change the font size. And incorporate more content from HLN as well.
Better, but not perfect
This version works better on my iPad than the previous version did. There are a few ways it can be made better, though. While I understand this is mostly video-based, I would really like to see a written (text) option for all of your stories. Sometimes I am in areas where video isn't appropriate; plus, I prefer reading the stories most of the time. Old stories stay up too long. If you decide to retain them more than 24 hours, please separate them from more current items. Finally, I know ads are necessary and accept that, but they should not look like news items; I have clicked on them thinking they are news when they aren't.
New version can't keep stories from scrooling up
With this version it does work at all. Te logo comes up and the the app crashes and that's it.
video doesn't work anymore. January 12, 2014
They advertise this app as having live news but you only get that with certain cable TV services if you subscribe to CNN.
The closed captions for the hearing impaired should be optional because it covers up a part of the video blocking the view.
I don't mind watching ads once, but the CNN app has the same ads over and over ad nauseam. Once I have seen an ad three times in a row I'm more likely to eschew the product than buy it.
I don't use the CNN app much because of the all too frequent and repetitive ads. USA Today has news and you don't have to watch ads to read it.
