What's New in Version 4.0.51
Lots of stories, but a hot mess of disorganization. When I click on my Breaking News notification as soon as it appears, auto-opening the CNN app, the breaking story is either nowhere to be found or hit-or-miss. The menu topics don't link to the areas they reference. And why isn't there simply a "Breaking News" menu option where the top couple of stories can be cross-referenced to their general categories (World, US, etc.)? At least navigation "Back" is somewhat better than that of other news apps like Politico and Feedly, which I find to be even more frustrating. Duplicate links now display on the Home page (do you ever just open the app to check the UI??). Links and articles disappear suddenly and completely, no longer available even using Search.
Don't get me started on the incredibly bad research, writing, and editing blatantly, arrogantly, and consistently passed off as journalism. I usually cross-reference several news agencies to try to get a complete, unbiased set of facts after sifting through deep piles of opinions passed off as "news". You are not alone in this age of neo-yellow-journalism. Just because there is a lot of information out there doesn't mean you can let it report itself. Raise your standards above a high school "C" grade. Honor the history of your profession.
Keep working on the app, devs. Maybe, someday, your technical work will become the best thing about the CNN app.
I used to think CNN was not biased...
Well, if I wanted to hear opinions over news that just slams one party and praises the other despite being corrupt, I'd normally go to MSNBC, and at least Fox keeps the headlines straight and post their opinion articles separately. Our country has many views, so I wish there was a news app that gave news, and not someone's opinion... CNN is no longer a news agency, but a biased side like most of the others. I just want news, not opinions... Update - Back down to one star... CNN chooses to leave news out that is very important. I cannot believe they refuse to report on major issues like the immense immigration problems that face the many great people trying to get in this country legally. There's an abundance of issues that people should know, but CNN is just another biased opinion agency that doesn't want to report anything that may be construed as going against a liberal view. They apparently are ok with snuffing the voices of those who have no way around a corrupt and broken immigration system that the liberal side does not want to address. At least conservatives recognize the hardship of those trying to do the right thing and want to fix it, but you will never hear CNN report on anything factual like that.
CNN App- get it, got it , good.
The CNN app promises to deliver you the world and they make good on that offer. The app icon sits like a bright red beacon of hope on the home screen of my iPhone 6S Plus.
I was a fan of CNN in the 1990s, went away and now came back strong in the past few years. I will say that the sick feeling I got from hearing Bill OReilly and the Fox Family news players was one factor, but the fact is that in breaking news situations CNN has always been the best.
Everyone should have this app at the ready.
I give 4 of 5 stars because as some have mentioned, the app can be a little disorganized. That's not the quality of the news it's the layout.
There has to be some millennial in Northern California who would love to get their multitasking hands on this and give it a makeover.
Lastly, I use the app often for streaming the live CNN feed. The crazy thing is that almost 50% of the time the streaming window fires up on a stand by / limbo screen. By the time I finish my tea and biscuits sometimes the live feed is back and sometimes it's like being at GOP headquarters on Donald Trump Appreciation Day- empty.
Keep up the good work. After Desert Storm, Wolf Blitzer, some scripted new shows about the 80s and presidents, I'm a fan for life.
Get the app folks- the offer the world and that's not so bad.
