CodeCheck: Scan food and beauty products
Looking for cosmetics and foods that are healthy and free of toxins, palm oil or too much sugar? With the CodeCheck app, you can see at a glance what’s actually hiding behind the cryptic content lists on the back of your products. Allowing you to shop healthy and sustainable - find healthy food and skincare free of toxins! But CodeCheck isn’t just a barcode scanner and smart shopping advisor. It’s also a wiki and a newsfeed – all in one app!
Ingredients at a glance!
Simply scan the qr code on foods or cosmetics and find out in seconds whether your granola is gluten free, if your yogurt is dairy free or if there are toxins in your shower gel. Healthy living and clean eating have never been easier.
To see at a glance how recommendable a product is in relation to health and ecology, CodeCheck uses a simple rating circle: the greener the circle, the less cause for concern you have with the product. Red, on the other hand, indicates the presence of critical ingredients.
The rating circle conceals a complex algorithm that compiles assessments from independent sources and experts to generate a rating, and at the same time proposes alternative products with a green rating circle. These sources and experts include the California Department of Public Health, Greenpeace, WWF and the European Commission.
Is there palm oil in your pizza or silicones in your shampoo? We will show you! And with each scan of the barcode, we will also automatically suggest healthy and toxin-free alternatives.
Are you vegan or vegetarian, or do you need to eat gluten- or lactose-free? With CodeCheck you can be alerted to critical ingredients, and at the same time be shown better alternatives without gluten or animal-derived ingredients.
Set filters in each category to exclude products with hormonally active substances, titanium dioxides or aluminum from your search.
Thanks to the news feed in the app, you’ll always be up to date with environmental and health tips and issues.
The app requires authorizations for your camera (for the barcode scanner) and location. The location will only be queried if you tap on “Automatically detect location” in the price comparison, and then only for a few seconds. CodeCheck records neither your location nor other personal information.
