Description

Meet Collective. Clipboard history for your Mac. Done right.

Chosen by Apple as "New & Noteworthy" on the Mac App Store.

Nearly anything you can copy, Collective will remember: Text, images, PDFs, movies, URLs, appointments, files: Collective keeps track of whatever you copy.

With a simple key combination (⌘-Shift-V) Collective appears, allowing you to add nearly anything you previously copied back to the clipboard to be pasted, exactly as you copied it.

Powerful. Precise. Attractive. Everything you expect from a Mac App.

How to Use Collective

When Collective is running, a "C" will appear in the top-right of your menu bar. Pressing ⌘-Shift-V will show Collective's history of what you have copied (alternatively, you can click the "C" in the menu bar). Clicking on any item will add it back to your clipboard, so you can paste it again.

Note that for security reasons Collective is not able to paste directly, but rather your selected item is added back to the clipboard for you to paste. Further, due to a limitation with internal clipboards, Collective can not keep a full history for Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). Collective can, however, be used to paste into these applications.

What's New in Version 2.0.1

Collective 2 is Here! ● Favorites ● Shortcuts ● Detail Bar ● Menu Bar ● Performance ● Refinements ● Bug Fixes

Favorites: Mark a clipping as a favorite and Collective will store it forever, no matter how large your clipping history grows. Filter by your favourites for quick access to clippings you regularly use.

Shortcuts: Your first 9 favorites are easily added to the clipboard with a simple 1-9 key press. You can also quickly mark / unmark a clipping as a favorite ('M') or filter by favourites ('F').

Detail Bar: Collective now shows you the line count, character count, image dimension, or file size for your selected clipping.

Menu Bar: the menu bar icon now directly activates Collective, or you can choose to fully hide the menu bar icon itself to save space. Preferences and other options have been moved to the Details Bar.

Performance: Collective now uses less power when both idle and active, but yet is also more responsive than ever.

Refinements: Collective's look has been tweaked in the spirit of recent OS updates, and polished throughout. We think it's the best looking version yet

Bug Fixes: a lot of small and not-so-small bugs have been squashed. In particular Collective now plays much more nicely with Spaces, Expose, TextExpander, and various other clipboard-altering applications.

Version 2.0.1 fixes an issue related to setting the clipboard history size to 2500.

Customer Reviews

Worth it. Love it, but could do more!

Love the search function to find specific text.

Bug Fixes Please:
- If you click in search you can no longer delete clippings until you quit and restart app
- The Clear All Clippings choice is broken, so is select all, so deleting is a REAL PAIN at the moment.
- Bribe an engineer at Adobe to see if they can support copying to the clipboard from Adobe products in a more meaningful way (maybe a modifier key).
- While you are at it see what can be done to improve Excel Copy/Paste - it didn’t bring the columns, just all the data collapsed into a single column. Weird.

Feature Requests:
- When you first launch the Collective ask the user to add their account password managers to the blacklist if they want to keep collective from adding passwords to the collective.
- When you do add an application to the blacklist immediately delete the items related to that application. Silly to have to add the app, find the clippings and manually delete them.
- Add more sort filters then just by app. Add sort filters for file types (text, PNG, JPEG, html, etc). Add sort by date, location.
- Add ability to clear collective clipboard at shutdown, every x days
- Add ability to do screenshots direct to clipboard (Command Control Shift 4 options like window, select area, etc.) with a creenshot icon in the collective clipboard.
- When capturing images switch to thumbnail view sizes for them. Silly to treat it like text with 2-5 line previews.

Great app, but...

Having said that, about half-way through my day, it freezes and even after quitting (through Activity Monitor, because it won’t let me quit otherwise), upon restart, it remains frozen. I do a lot of cutting and pasting throughout the day, and I think maybe the sheer amount of items causes it to chug and finally, as mentioned - freeze. Once this is fixed, my rating will definiely go up to 5!

Memory usage could be lower?

On my 13 inch MacBook Pro with retina display, it uses about ~130MB RAM. Any chance this can be lowered? That’ll make it an awesome app!

Update: Collective 2 update is great! It’s a 5-star app now. Memory use is significantly lower, now at ~9MB! One of my everyday essential apps!
