Needs work, but great start!
From a feature standpoint, I LOVE the ability to use photos and turn them into sketches! From a coloring book perspective, this is something a 3-year old might enjoy.
Please, ditch the "crayon" on the screen, allow people to choose brush/pencil/crayon/marker types and sizes and add support or stylus' that know about pressure. Do that and this'll be a 5-star app. It'll gain at least 1-2 stars just by getting rid of the silly crayon and coloring under the tip of the stylus. If you want to allow people to "see" where the coloring will go, at least allow them to choose to use the "crayon" or not.
This has turned out to be my favorite App for relaxation . Looking forward to the "Recent used Colors" option.
Can't go wrong with this app. Works great.
Really Fine Color App; Updated Again
Update 2 (1 March 2013):
Still enjoying this app so much. With the addition of the Recently Used Colors feature, I can't think of anything else to add to it. Thanks for taking a great app for all ages and making it awesome!
As a left-hander, I did run across a small problem with the crayon becoming difficult to control when using the left-handed orientation in the left-most 15% to 20% of the screen or so--it wants to color horizontally only within this area and it becomes difficult to attempt to force it to color vertically or at any angle. I discovered this is only a issue of the left-handed orientation in this screen location and does not affect the right-handed orientation so using the right-handed orientation in this screen area is an easy workaround to the issue.
Update: As promised, here are the 5 stars, and I wish there could be more. This coloring app is now everything I hoped it could be!
It even includes a very useful feature as a default which the developer does not mention: when you import an image, the lines included in that image are considered a layer already; this means that when you use the Eraser tool to correct errors, it will not erase any of the original lines in the imported image. You don't have to try to recreate erased imported image lines to try to keep your colored image uniform. I have met Coloring Nirvana and it is mine :)
The color selection is gorgeous--many, many thanks for that. I love the Undo feature.
While I have several drawing, painting and coloring programs installed, this is, hands down, my go-to app for the relaxation value attached to simply coloring for a while at the end of a busy day. With all the new features, can't wait to really investigate the full potential.
Worth the cost and then some and I wish the developer all the success in the world! Thank you so much for the fabulous Update :)
This app appears to be about the closest thing to a grown-up's coloring book in the App Store. It has some great features: the ability to set your point diameter (pretty nice variety of diameters so you can color in smaller areas on up), set a left-handed or right-handed orientation and choose color from the palette screen (this is also where the eraser choice is located). The ability to import an image is really great--I imported a screen capture of a completed stained glass jigsaw puzzle, thinking it would make a successful coloring page, and was pleased with that result.
I would like to see a few features in future upgrades and would rate it at 5 stars if these features where present. More colors, if possible, lots more colors. Another upgrade possibility would be the ability to rotate images from the default portrait orientation to landscape orientation. Lastly, as another reviewer requested, the ability to pan out and zoom in would be quite a good thing to have.
Overall, this is good fun for grown-ups, too, and could be a great app for them with some additional features.
I'd love to see this app get more publicity; I'd recommend it to anyone of any age who enjoys crayon drawing and coloring. Among its many attributes is its absolute simplicity of use so that small children can easily master its use, This same simplicity allows older colorers a time of pure relaxation. Thanks to the developer for the hours of pleasure I've derived from it already.
The developer has listed almost all of the features in the writeup, so I will only add a couple more which I discovered: for those who want to draw freehand, create a blank image in any paint program, save it to your device photo gallery and import this blank image as a Page. Works a treat.
I've found the most successful images to import as coloring pages are freeware coloring pages widely available on the internet. Though they are intended for printout pages, many of them translate to this app beautifully. Content is available for all ages and interests.
My only wish, aside from seeing this app find the interest it deserves, would be an addition of more colors, perhaps taking the total to 48 or so. As an adult using the app, more colors would allow for shading as well as other potential niceties. Wanting more colors is the only reason I give it 4 stars. Five stars the day those colors arrive.
I'm left handed and have no trouble with the crayon directional control. The point size control is great--like always having a sharpened crayon if you want. The eraser is awesome. Using a stylus allows you more control over fine-line coloring, so the stylus option is a great idea.
This is very wordy, but I do feel strongly that this app deserves attention in the art app world. If you've gotten this far, thanks!
