Comic Book Reader
By Zombie Process
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
Simple yet robust application for reading Comic Book Archive files. You can download comic books directly from Mobile Safari, or from other file handling apps like Filer and Drop Box, and view them in Comic Book Reader without using a computer or any special software. Or, you can copy your entire collection from your computer using iTunes and organize them visually using simple collection filters.
The comic books are loaded directly, with no conversion, and displayed fullscreen. You can swipe from page to page, pinch to zoom and pan seamlessly. Tap on the margins to quickly switch pages, and tap in the middle to bring up more controls, including a quick page selection slider. You can also set an individual collection to be read right to left, for a more authentic Manga reading experience.
Collections are simply named filters that will automatically organize your comics. Type the name of a series that you wish to organize, and any files matching that name will be put together on your bookshelf, automatically including any matching files you add later. When you open a collection, you will see a coverflow of all its files. Your reading history will also be remembered, so you can quickly get back to where you left off.
However, if you wish, you may use another app to organize your comics, and use Comic Book Reader as a simple viewer. Supports CBR, CBZ, RAR, and ZIP archives, containing images of several possible formats. Any application that supports document handling can use Comic Book Reader to view these files.
This app does not provide any source for downloading comic books, please supply your own files.
What's New in Version 0.25
* Fixed a number of crashes
* Added landscape reading mode, with pages fit to screen width
No conversion of comics necessary. Seems to be able to handle large files. Nice shelf and cover flow interfaces. Creating collections is based on the filenames of the comic files so you may have to do some tweaking of the filenames to get them to be sorted into collections in a way that you desire.
The images/pages of the comics aren't always perfectly centered on the screen. They're usually off center to the right. It's not a big deal but it is a little strange.
I have had this application crash on me multiple times. When it does crash, if you've grouped any comics that grouping is undone so a good practice to get into until this problem is fixed is to exit the application after making any changes. It seems changes are saved on exit and not when they're made.
One of my top apps - almost perfect
Have a newish Ipad 2, been using this app for 2 months and have not had one crash. Extremely simple to get your comics loaded in and love the sort feature. The only thing preventing me from giving the full 5 stars is because I'm still waiting for the update which promises ability to stream comics through wifi so I can leave them taking up space on my PC hard drive instead of my ipad. Then it will be perfect.
I really want to like this
This app has good potential but it crashes too many times for me and doesn't save the folders(collections) I created after a crash. This app show really be free or at least have a lite version so that you can test it first because now I am going to delete it and I already paid for it. Maybe I'll wait until there's is an update or something and then try it again. I recommend the app call arcreader. It is a free comic reader. The only problem is it doesn't have folders. But it is fast and free.
