What's New in Version 2.602.3
• Added single player skirmish modes "Annihilation" and "Control Point"!
• Up to 4v4 skirmishes with computer AI are now available on 52 maps!
Truely Great Title!
Skirmish Mode is the greastest addition to Company of Heroes, and with the 9.99 price tag, why wouldn't any WWII/RTS fan want to wait. I'm not a Starcraft 2 fan, but this game is probably the most realistic and indepth strategy game that incorporates real tactics and weaponary used by each force. Any history buff that has in depth knowledge of battles and real life tactics used during WWII with either American, Wehrmacht, or British will feel quite at home. However, one must realise this game is not intended to replicate moments from history, so playing against AI or online play may not be the exact cup of tea your looking for.
Visuals and Sounds- Stunning detailed down to each individual soldier, weapon, and vehicle in the game. Being able to rotate the camera and zoom in and out to seem as if your standing on the dirt of Normandy is exceptional. Everything here is very memorable, and each shot, explosion and piece of shrapnel leaves a mark in your mind and on the battlefield. Every bit of combat in this game feels like a true battle for position on the map. I grew up playing Command and Conquor games, but Company of Heroes by far beats all those previous editions. The indepth detail to each class reminds me so much why I was a huge fan of WWII games. Everything nowadays is all about future weapons and kill count. This is just good wholesome tactics and strategy. Five out of five in my book.
Great Addition to Epic RTS Genre
Company of Heroes combines great game play aspects from some of my favorite games from the past: SSL's Soilders at War and EA Command and Conquer Generals. It's not exactly the same in the sense you can't manage individual soilders, but rather management is at the squad level. The graphics and game play put you at the RTS equivalent of "Saving Private Ryan" action. I just got my new Mac Retina. I am not sure if it's optimized for this, but the graphics are incredible and you can zoom into any specific battlefield scene without system delays or slowness. Knowing that so much is happening on the battlefield when you zoom in that is very impressive. A must have for any strategic non-first player gameplayer or fan of World War II. I would say head to head or multiplayer option is needed to cap this out. It is not currently available for the Mac version as of this writing. Overall, great job. 4.5 stars rounded to 5. If it had multiplayer, this would be a perfect 5 rating.
Let's face it games are limited on macs, there's just not that much out there. That being said I have played Starcraft, Warcraft, Dawn of War, Empire at War, Galatic Battle Grounds and Civ 4, and 5. Company of Heroes is one of the best games I have played in awhile. The Campaign is very long and has you go through a variety of missions such as the D-Day landing and Operation Market Garden. The Campaign alone is enough to warrant the price of admission but the added Skirmish mode is icing on the cake. The objective of Control Points is to capture certain points on the map with your armies, similar to Dawn of War and Empire at war. Annihilation is just your army vs. the other and whoever kills the other first wins similar to Starcraft and Warcraft. Company of Heroes is becoming a new favorite of mine and I can't stress it enough buying it while its on sale for $10, you won't be dissapointed.
