Ratings and Reviews
As a teenager, I loved Poe. To have this treasure trove of Edgar Allen Poe right at your fingertips is divine. I admit I have been watching "The Following" on television, and the continual references to Poe made me find the old book on my shelf so I could go back and savor his genius. To find an app with his work available in this medium has been the most satisfying app find I've experienced YET on my iPhone. Poe was one of the forefathers that helped us find the beauty and comfort one may find in horror and facing our terrors. Some of his poetry is so profound. Without a doubt, you'll love this app.
A huge volume of work
This is a stellar app! a few years back, I bought one of those "Complete Works of..." books from a used bookstore. This thing was, of course, huge, bulky, and certainly not something I could take on the bus with me.
Then I found this app. The developers have done a great job, and the amount of material is great, as is the interface. This is almost always something I turn to on my commute.
The Incomplete Edgar Allan Poe
Probably the best Poe app out, and well worth 99 cents. But it is far from complete. I understand the decision not to include several pieces universally included in Complete Works, for example, Poe's illuminating Marginalia.
But to overlook what Poe (and many scholars) considered to be his most important work - EUREKA - is unforgivable. This piece out-did Einstein (in1847!), prefigured Quantum Physics, and is essential to understanding the vast scope and grasp of Poe's mind.
The app could be a little more user-friendly and a lot more attractive with very little effort. There are many good reasons why most ebooks flip pages rather than scroll down - the scrolling makes it impossible to find your place or a particular passage. The ability to mark passages would also be most helpful, and some prettying up is justified.
But Most of All, Include "Eureka" - no edition can be called complete without it.
