Description

Designed to be used in the confessional, this app is the perfect aid for every penitent. With a personalized examination of conscience for each user, password protected profiles, and a step-by-step guide to the sacrament, this app invites Catholics to prayerfully prepare for and participate in the Rite of Penance. Individuals who have been away from the sacrament for some time will find Confession: A Roman Catholic App to be a useful and inviting tool.

The text of this app was developed in collaboration with Rev. Thomas G. Weinandy, OFM, Executive Director of the Secretariat for Doctrine and Pastoral Practices of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Rev. Daniel Scheidt, pastor of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mishawaka, IN. The app received an imprimatur from Bishop Kevin C. Rhodes of the Diocese of Fort Wayne – South Bend. It is the first known imprimatur to be given for an iPhone/iPad app.

Very handy

A real help for both examination of conscience and confession. The number feature is a nice addition; seeing commissions of a particular sin reach double digits is a good wake-up call, both that I seriously need to work on that and that it's been a while since confession.

When I get close to the front of the confession line, I set my iPod to stay awake for a few minutes and log in to the app; that removes the awkwardness of not being ready and frantically trying to log in and say "bless me Father..." at the same time.

The walk-through is nice. I like that the app erases my sin list and records the date when I complete the process, and the inspirational texts at the end are nice.

Makes you want to confess

The most stressful part of going to confession for me was always the format, let alone the examination of conscience part. In my search for an app for the rosary, I came across this one. And I have used it in confession on more than one occasion. I now feel confident that I am not only making a good confession, from a thorough examination of the commandments, but that I have got the format and prayers right too. My iPhone is always with me. Having this app in my pocket makes it easy to record my sins as soon as they may happen; eliminating the chances they may be forgotten. The sins recorded are then listed for quick access during confession.

It would be helpful if it was possible to edit the order of your sins into a customizable list so that they could be told in an organized fashion.

But, if you're looking to embrace the Sacrament of Reconciliation more closely, get this app.

You're on your own penance wise. Hmm, there's got to be an app for that.

Great App

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is more meaningful when I use this app. I know my Examination of Conscience has been thorough if done prayerfully and humbly. For the rite, it gives me a list with the number (how many times) that I can just read. This means I won't forget or skip any. It tells me exactly how long it's been too.
