Notifications, messages, posting to newsfeed not working
Guys, it’s been like 8 months of this, and it seems like almost nothing on this app works the way it should. Of course that’s an exaggeration, but that’s how it feels because the problems are really basic problems. The app is buggy, wont let me post photos from my phone, doesn’t update notifications, messages don’t work at all for most of our church right now (and they don’t want to log into a computer to send messages to each other)—it doesn’t work even for the most basic functions. The past few weeks, people have missed events, showed up at the wrong place at the right time due to failure of the app to update and actually facilitate communication.
Our church groups are probably about to abandon and go back to GroupMe, which is a pain, but at least it works. My patient group leaders have waited with me, because I asked Realm support on the phone about R&D and was told that there were over 100 people on the R&D team. To be blunt, though, the actual updates that are released make it seem, along with the ongoing, seemingly unaddressed problems, seem like there’s one or two people cranking out little upgrades here and there that have nothing to do with the functions that I and our people actually want to use (messaging each other, posting photos to their newsfeeds, and RSVPing to group events).
Developer Response ,
We had an issue right after an update this week, however we have corrected the problem. Please update the app and you will be able to login. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Released before it was ready.
Whoever is rating this app as 5 stars is either working for The Realm, not being honest with themselves, or hasn’t actually tried to use it for what it’s made for.
This app is essentially in beta testing as has been for over a year, despite ACS(The Realm) charging our church for it. So for a year our staff has called their “support” team to let them know about issues they should have tested for. Their support team has argued with our staff about functions that “should work” but they clearly have not actually tested them. Their solutions continue to have vague timelines attached to them and never actually followed through on.
Our church members are frustrated with the how poorly it functions and how inconsistent the app is. Because we use it for online giving, it does affect us financially in addition to us paying for the service. Also our member participation with the app has suffered immensely due to the difficulty of learning the apps non-intuitive setup. Engaging with the app and creating events and groups is painfully bad. Because transitioning to an app was a fairly large move for our church, this has been incredibly disappointing considering how much effort we have put into convincing people it would be a good move.
All in all, the app does “function” most of the time, but has major issues that should be considered before implementing it.
The Realm App has been a great addition to our church’s communication plan. Congregants are on the app checking out events, giving online, and connecting with each other. One group in particular is using their group more as an online repository of videos and help sheets so that the members can easily get to the info they need without having to save various emails/files. And they love being able to do that on the go, from the app. There are some areas that are still being developed and I’ve had to remind the staff that the app does not have the same staff-level permissions as the full version, so they cannot change people’s contact info for them via the app. But these are minor things compared to the ease of communication for the staff and the users.
