Customer Reviews

No interactivity, no exciting material: not recommended!

I downloaded Converting Fractions for use in an elementary math methods course at my college. I was disappointed in the low quantity of material included here for the price of $0.99! There are only about 25 problems to solve, and there is two types of problem: converting mixed numbers to improper fractions, and the reverse. Also, this app is merely a study tool; there is nothing included to teach students how to solve these problems before they begin the flash cards.

This app really needs some interactivity. There is nothing here that cannot be done without an iPad or iPod, since it is just a set of flash cards with problems on one side and solutions on the back. There is no way even for students to input their answers to be checked: they have to do the work on paper and check with the flash card. I would recommend including some sort of visual model of the process. Perhaps a visual model could be there at first, but as the problems go along, students could be encouraged to solve the problems on their own using the algorithm. This is the way students should be taught in math class, and the Converting Fractions app should represent that!

This app looked very promising, however, it requires one to register. This is not a problem except it would not accept any of the info I tried to use, making it a useless purchase. Very disappointed.
