Greedy game design

Before I start, let me just say that this game is a blast to play. It is a lot of fun, and I thoroughly enjoyed it for the short amount of time I've actually been able to play without paying real money. The reason I'm giving it one star, however, is what I personally would deem a shameful display of greed from the game developer(s). Now, I always expect to be pressured to pay real money to progress faster in a game like this, or to add cool new features. Fine, that's the tradeoff for getting to play a fun game for free. Everyone does it, I don't care. That being said, I didn't expect to be essentially blocked from progressing at all unless I spend money. And not like the couple of dollars this game would cost if it wasn't free to download. I mean a potentially large amount of money. Way more than an app like this is worth. In order to progress to a new location and to continue playing the game, you need to have gems. You get a few gems each time you level up an experience level, but that's pretty much it. The only other way to get gems is by paying real money, and they are expensive. Very expensive, considering they're a made-up game currency. If you're looking for a game to pass some time for a couple of days, download this game. If you want something to entertain you for any longer, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. If you can't control yourself when it comes to micro-transactions in games like these, run as far away from this one as possible.

Greedy developers!

This game works well enough and is reasonably fun to play, although the developers have made it impossible to progress unless you either a) are willing to pay LOTS of money, or b) are willing to progress at an insanely S-L-O-W rate. To make progress you need to spend diamonds. At first, you get free diamonds for each 5 levels you pass. That stops fast enough! You also get 2 diamonds each day you log in, but only if you've logged in 7 consecutive days. Miss a day and you start all over again. They do have a casino at which you can spin for diamonds, using coins you earn in the game. You can earn 2-15 diamonds at the casino, but it's easy to spend a week's worth of coins (or more) and not get a single diamond. The things you need to spend diamonds on get pretty pricey fast. I wish I had never downloaded this game. Being a persistent person, I don't want to delete until I finish all the "free" levels. It's just not that fun. When I download a free app, I fully expect to be given opportunities to purchase items to enhance the game, but this game has "greedy developer" written all over it. If the developers were a little more generous with the diamonds, then the game would be much more fun, and I actually might have considered spending a buck or two on it from time to time, but this game is little more than frustrating and is one I will soon be deleting.

I would've given it 5 stars but...

I would've stayed up all night playing, it's that addictive. I really, really like this game. The graphics, the music, everything. Well except for one major thing. Also the reason why I didn't give it 5 stars. The gems issue. The higher you go up on levels, the harder it becomes to acquire them. It's really frustrating me that I'm earning all these coins but I'm unable to upgrade restaurants or supplies because I don't have enough gems. If it was easier to earn them or trade in coins for them this would be the perfect game. I'm starting to get a bit bored because I can only repeat the levels so many times in trying to earn xp points. Please fix the gem issue because right now I'm stuck at the bakery in a sort of limbo with no way to advance. Add a marketplace like someone else mentioned or have another way to make it easier to earn gems. Right now I'm off to find another cooking game in the meantime.
